		At the end of 1983 Cosworth employees Mario Illien and Paul Morgan decided that they could build better CART engines than Cosworth was willing to fund and they approached Roger Penske and asked for funding.
		The domination of Ferrari in recent years put a lot of pressure on Ilmor and things were not helped in May 2001 when Morgan was killed while flying an old warplane.
		This led to a deal at the end of 2002 which sees Mercedes-Benz increasing its shareholding in Ilmor Engineering and will lead to a full take over the entire company by 2005.

		The press room at the Estoril circuit was packed to the rafters with journalists and members of rival teams, as they heard from the men behind the radically designed X3 machine: Mario Illien, Eskil Suter, Steve Miller and their rider for these two events, former GP winner Garry McCoy.
		Ilmor Managing Director Steve Miller was also on hand to unveil the new bike.
		Of course they have a lot of hard work ahead of them compared to the well established teams but given all of Ilmor’s experience I think they will have a good chance next year to battle the other teams, to be in the middle or maybe even better than that.

		The Ilmor company was founded by Mario Illien and Paul Morgan (hence IL MOR) in 1984.

		And Ilmor Engineering is planning to outmuscle the big-block V-8 crowd with its new MV10-S, the first V-10 gasoline engine introduced for the marine performance market.
		Ilmor may not be familiar to boaters, but the engine builder has extensive experience in the auto racing world, building motors for McLaren-Mercedes-Benz Formula One cars in Europe and for Honda in the Indy Racing League here.

		Ilmor, builders of the only British bike on the MotoGP grid, yesterday made the shock decision to pull out of the championship after surviving only one race of the 2007 season with their 800cc X3 SRT motorcycle.
		Ilmor riders Jeremy McWilliams, 42, from Belfast, and the 30-year-old Australian Andrew Pitt will now miss the second round of the series in Spain on 25 March and have no idea whether they will be called back into action this year.
		Ilmor are a legendary name in car racing, having designed the engines used by Mika Hakkinen to win two Formula One championships.

		Ilmor entered Formula One when the 3.5 Litre Formula was introduced and the 1.5 Litre turbocharged engines were outlawed by the FIA.

		Ilmor Engineering, the race engine-building arm of Mercedes-Benz, will build a 26,000 square-foot technology center in Plymouth, Mich. to centralize its American engineering and business management activities.

	Mike Janes, Ilmor GP Team Manager: "Things aren't progressing as fast as I would like"
		Following the recent test in Almeria, where despite being hampered by bad weather the team made significant progress, Ilmor GP had high hopes for the test in Sepang where they joined the likes of Kawasaki and Yamaha out on the track.
		Andrew Pitt was alone once again in testing the Ilmor GP bike and over the three days the Aussie rider accumulated a total of 166 laps of the 5.54k Malaysian track.
		The test in Sepang has left the team with a huge amount of data to be analysed ahead of the test in Qatar and whilst everyone remains realistic, Ilmor GP are hopeful that further progress will be made at the Middle Eastern circuit.

		Losail International Circuit 10.03.07: Following his crash yesterday at the end of the hour long qualifying session, Ilmor GP rider Jeremy McWilliams was left unable to participate in the first race of the 2007 MotoGP World Championship today in Qatar.
		During his fall from the bike the Northern Irishman knocked his previously fractured left femur and irritated the muscle around the healing bone causing an extremely painful haematoma in his thigh.
		The team have worked so hard and we have made some positive changes to the bike - I was expecting better today after the pace we managed to achieve over the past couple of days but we were a couple of seconds down on our own time let alone anyone else's.
