 VAW: Computer Collection: ImageWriter II
ImageWriter II is a dot matrix printer produced by Apple beginning in 1985.
Dot matrix printers like the ImageWriter II use an impact drum to strike a ribbon that is saturated with ink against a sheet of paper.
The boldness of the resulting characters depends on the two factors: the force of the strike and the amount of ink left in the ribbon.

 Data I/O - The President's Perspective
The ImageWriter is a solution aimed primarily at new customers for Data I/O and for an application, in-system programming, that we had not previously addressed.
ImageWriter is targeted at OEMs building consumer products, such as home appliances that incorporate low-cost microcontrollers, as well as at the automotive electronics industry.
The majority of these gaps did not prevent the ImageWriter from being used by most of the initial customers, but they often were an annoyance that prevented the customer’s experience from being the delightful one that we intended and, as a result, required us to provide a level of technical assistance that was undesirable.
