Teaching Art Nouveau: Images and Activities - Émile Gallé
By plumbing the mysterious forces in nature, Gallé also examined imagination as an interior force -- psychic as well as physical -- to be tapped and communicated.
Of even greater significance for Gallé was the hypnotist Bernheim's study of suggestion and the "transformation of ideas into images." Like dreams, inspiration sprang from Gallé's unconscious, triggered by a stream of visual suggestion.
Even Gallé, who trained and apprenticed as a glassmaker -- his father founded the company -- did not make his own glass and only rarely decorated it after he became owner of the glassworks.

The greatest impact of the tsunami was generally in an east-west direction, so the havoc caused by the tsunami along the southwestern shores of Sri Lanka was not as severe as along the eastern coast.
The ripple-like wave pattern evident in this MISR image roughly correlates with the undersea boundary of the continental shelf.
It is possible that this semi-concentric pattern represents wave reflection from the continental land mass; however, a combination of wave modeling and detailed bathymetric data is required to fully understand the dynamics.

Cricinfo - Botham lends support to tsunami relief effort
Ian Botham has joined the efforts of Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne to help tsunami victims in Sri Lanka with a whirlwind fact-finding tour of the south coast that left him both "shocked by the devastation" and "inspired by the resilience of the people".
Despite a significant improvement in the on-ground situation after the Boxing Day tragedy, Botham was left visibly moved by the trail of destruction after flying in a seaplane down from Colombo to Galle, a southern town that was swamped by the tsunami waves.
On his drive from the Koggala military airbase he passed the luxury beach villa, now flattened, where the Sky commentary team stayed during England's last tour in 2003 and then saw the wreckage that is now the Galle International Stadium, once one of the world's most picturesque venues.
