Immersion is an optional teaching programme which exists for all those who have the majority language as their first language and who will not otherwise naturally come in contact with the immersion language.
The most conspicuous feature of immersion is that the instruction to begin with is mostly given in a different language from the pupils' first language; in other words, the pupils are taught for instance mathematics and biology in the immersion language.
The immersion programme complies with the national curriculum, and the immersion pupils are to be given the knowledge that the curriculum presupposes.

Immersion in a virtual world is viewed by most theorists of postmodernism as a passive subjection to the authority of the world-designer--a subjection exemplified by the entrapment of tourists in the self-enclosed virtual realities of theme parks or vacation resorts (where the visitor's only freedom is the freedom to use his credit card).

Immersion Education for the Millenium: What we have learned in the last 30 years
Of particular importance in the success of any immersion program are the resources that are required to enable it to function adequately and the continued high level of commitment of all involved in the program, from policy-makers to teachers and students.
This conclusion suggests that educators in immersion programs should be conscious of the potential for enhancing students' awareness of language by encouraging them to compare and contrast aspects of their two languages and by having students carry out individual and group projects focusing on structural, sociolinguistic, and sociopolitical aspects of language.
For this to happen, however, immersion educators must explicitly locate their pedagogy and educational vision in the realm of global education and ensure that language policies operating in the school are consistent with this philosophy of global education.

The immersion is valid only when the waters of the mikvah envelop each and every part of the body and, indeed, each hair.To this end, the woman bathes, shampoos, combs her hair, and removes fromher body anything that might impede her total immersion.
Immersion in the mikvah is the culmination of the Taharat Hamishpachah discipline. It is a special moment for the woman who has adhered to the many nuances of the mitzvah and has anticipated this night.
Immersion in the mikvah can be understood as a symbolic act of self abnegation, the conscious suspension of the self as an autonomous force.

Archived - Tools for Schools - Two-Way Immersion Education
Two-way immersion is an educational model that integrates native English speakers and native speakers of another language for all or most of the day, with the goals of promoting high academic achievement, first- and second-language development, and cross-cultural understanding for all students.
Teachers in two-way immersion programs teach for extended periods of time in one designated language, and encourage both native speakers and second-language learners to communicate in the language of instruction to the best of their ability.
Third, immersion programs enable language- majority children (those who are native speakers of the high-status language of the society, i.e., English in the United States) to develop second-language proficiency without compromising their academic achievement.

What Parents Want to Know About Foreign Language Immersion Programs
Modeled after the pioneering French immersion programs developed in Canada in the 1960s, foreign language immersion programs in the United States are designed to enrich the education of native-English-speaking students by teaching them all of their academic subjects in a second language.
The goal of immersion is to provide educational experiences, beginning in kindergarten and ideally sustained through Grade 12, that support academic and linguistic development in two languages and that develop students’ appreciation of their own and other cultures.
Immersion students who learn to read first in a language that is markedly different from English, such as Arabic or Japanese, will need to learn and practice literacy skills that are specific to each language (Kanagy, 2001).

One, accept that immersion is a property of things and just deal with the ambiguity that kludges the imaginative involvement you have with things like a book with the inability to tell reality from simulation.
Because if immersion is defined, broadly, as the inability to tell real from simulation, then it seems perfectly reasonable to me to assume that a part of our being was fooled by the words on the page.
As a way-point to bigger conclusions about immersion, I’d argue that the term “immersion” should mean the distance from or fraction of the Turing Event—the masking of reality—and the other senses of partial immersion should stick to the terms such as engrossing, engaging and involving.

Language immersion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
About half of the class time is spent learning subject matter in the foreign language and language learning per se is incorporated as necessary throughout the curriculum.
The goals are to become functionally proficient in the foreign language (though to a lesser extent than through Total Immersion), to master subject content taught in the foreign languages, and to acquire an understanding of and appreciation for other cultures.
This type of program is usually sequential, cumulative, continuous, proficiency-oriented, and part of an integrated grade school sequence (most frequently in the U.S. in grades K-6).

 Baptism: Immersion Only?
Fundamentalists, however, regard only baptism by immersion as true baptism, concluding that most Catholics are not validly baptized at all.
Even today practical difficulties can render immersion nearly or entirely impossible for some individuals: for example, people with certain medical conditions—the bedridden; quadriplegics; individuals with tracheotomies (an opening into the airway in the throat) or in negative pressure ventilators (iron lungs).
That the early Church permitted pouring instead of immersion is demonstrated by the Didache, a Syrian liturgical manual that was widely circulated among the churches in the first few centuries of Christianity, perhaps the earliest Christian writing outside the New Testament.

Paula Burch's Low Water Immersion Dyeing
In traditional immersion dyeing, one uses a large volume of water, frequent stirring, and the use of leveling agents such as salt and, optionally, Calsolene oil, in order to make the color as smooth and featureless as possible.
In low water immersion dyeing, one uses as little water as possible, crunching the fabric together for a sort of resist effect, with as little stirring as possible.
The reason for this is that, in tie dyeing, one normally pre-soaks the fabric in the soda ash fixer, or else adds it to the dye solutions themselves, so that the dye immediately reacts with the first fiber it touches.
