  Immolation - Technical Death Metal
On their first album, Immolation can be seen making the transition from the straightforward death metal of their demo to a new and technical style within the advancements the death metal genre was to make in the early 1990s, seen most prominently on the newer songs on the first half of this release.
The strength of this iteration of the music of Immolation is as always in the inventiveness of riff construction and imagination to match concept to content, rare attributes in any genre especially valued and needed in death metal at this time.
As musicians, they have matured upward from the plateau found on their second album, and on this, the differences are subtle: a fine understanding of the emotions wrought from different types of melody, a detailed understanding of pace in the context of their traditional tugging and rebounding rhythm, a clear-sighted sequence of introduction of ideas.

Not that an Immolation album is frequently cause for disappointment or derision, but the new album of New York's veteran deliverers of death and doom has really gone all-out in branding the bands as true and loyal subjects of death metal.
The band's renowned technicality is here in all its complex glory, yet the quartet has riffs that lure and fascinate and often drift into Incantation territory.

Immolation have kept their style of truly vicious, dark death metal intact and are still basing their songs on killer, mean-sounding riffs.
Immolation haven't gone completely mad like Gorguts, but manage to keep a certain openness to their sound that I think might even attract people who generally aren't fans of the genre, while also forcing death metal fans to put on bibs before pressing "play".

The band is IMMOLATION and with the release of their most anticipated album yet, “Unholy Cult”, they will undoubtedly cast their ominous shadow over the masses and keep them forever dark.
As IMMOLATION continued throughout the years with such releases as “Here In After” (MetalBlade ’96) and “Failures For Gods” (MetalBlade ’99), they were developing not only their musical capabilities and signature style, but also becoming one of the most intense live acts in the industry.

Review: Immolation overdrive their style of extreme and nihilistic death metal by bringing intense rhythmic aggression and psychotic abstract melody together in a furious impact of alienation.
Deconstructive urges in the tugging, descending spirals of rhythmic breakdown that are the classic emblem of Immolation's riffing combine with melodic phrases that use oblique harmonies to silhouette central themes to the music.
Offtime riff placement and interludes of blast beat sequences move larger structures within each song pattern, driving toward a conclusion in the same melodic voice that was seemingly divergent earlier in the song.
