 Characters of Shakespeare's Plays
But every single character in Shakespeare, is as much an individual, as those in life itself; it is as impossible to find any two alike; and such, as from their relation or affinity in any respect appear most to be twins, will, upon comparison, be found remarkably distinct.
Shakespeare, who was always sure of his object, to move in a sufficiently powerful manner when he wished to do so, has occasionally, by indulging in a freer play, purposely moderated the impressions when too painful, and immediately introduced a musical alleviation of our sympathy.
Shakespeare, who was as good a philosopher as he was a poet, thought otherwise.

Chapter Cymbeline of Tales from Shakespeare by Charles and Mary Lamb
Therefore there were now standing in the king’s presence (but with very different hopes and fears) Posthumus and Imogen, with her new master the Roman general; the faithful servant Pisanio, and the false friend Iachimo; and likewise the two lost sons of Cymbeline, with Bellarius, who had stolen them away.
Lucius, the Roman general, who had taken Imogen under his protection as his page, was the first (as has been before said) who spoke to the king.
Imogen then, fixing her eye on Iachimo, demanded no other boon than this: that Iachimo should be made to confess whence he had the ring he wore on his finger.

[1999: November] Iophon (tan to Alzheimer's thread)
It would give us an interesting biographical counterpoint to the Philoctetes if it were true, akin to the relationships between Cymbeline and Imogen or Prospero and Miranda and what we know about Shakespeare's two daughters (of course I'm assuming that such a bad relationship would have been going downhill for years).
If it were true, indeed, I'd guess that the Iophon reference might be a specific substituted for a more general reference to "Sophocles' son."
