A total of 19 people from politics, business, journalism, sport and the arts were conferred at the O'Reilly Hall on UCD's Belfield campus.
Sculptor Imogen Stuart, chairwoman of the Abbey Theatre, Eithne Healy and artist Anne Madden will receive their degrees alongside former European Commissioner David Byrne, former US congressman Bruce Morrison and former sports stars Mick O'Dwyer, Kevin Heffernan, Willie John McBride and Kevin Moran.
UCD cited their "exceptional contribution to Irish society and their impact on the world stage" as reasons why these people had been chosen to receive honorary degrees.

Alexandra Wejchert and Oisin Kelly pursued two sides of the sculptural coin, with Kelly’s big, nationalist inspirations becoming increasingly popular after his works at the Garden of Remembrance, the Irish Life Centre and Cork County Hall, while Wejchert’s cool abstraction was favoured by such clients as AIB Bank centre and University College Dublin.
Outdoor work by John Burke, Michael Bulfin, Imogen Stuart and Conor Fallon prefigured the growth in public art that would happen during the following decade.
