LONDON (Reuters) -- Women with breast cancer symptoms such as pain, change in breast shape, or nipple discharge are four times more likely to delay going to a doctor than those who find a breast lump, UK researchers report.
And part of the problem may be that women with breast changes other than a lump may not be aware that their symptoms may be due to breast cancer, according to a joint statement from The Imperial Cancer Research Fund and the British Journal of Cancer.
The researchers found that the women who waited for at least 3 months to see a physician were more likely to have symptoms of breast cancer other than a lump and less likely to have discussed these symptoms with a spouse or a close member of the family than patients who found a breast lump.
