Duncan trains for many months before returning to his parents' home-land as the gravity is two thirds different to Titan's, the effect would be like walking with an extra 6st if you were 9st, effectivley being 15st, and your body would not cope very well.
The plot thickens as Duncan reaches Earth, after a long haul space flight, the puzzle plays an integral part as the plot thickens, but you will have to read it to find out any more.

Songs of Distant Earth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The story is centred on a rendezvous between human beings far in the future, after the destruction of the Earth, on the oceanic planet of Thalassa.
In the story, humans respond to the prospect of unavoidable doom by launching a series of robot colony ships into space, to continue Earth life after the destruction of the homeworld (caused by the Sun becoming a nova).
In the novel, Clarke mentions the solar neutrino problem (the fact that the Sun seems to emit fewer neutrinos than it should), and then the scientists in the future Earth are said to discover that the problem lies in an instability of the Sun, which will lead to its explosion into a nova.

Imperial Earth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Imperial Earth (ISBN 0-15-144233-9) is a novel written by Arthur C. Clarke, and published in time for the U.S. bicentennial in 1976 by Ballantine Books.
It follows the protagonist (Duncan Makenzie) on a trip to Earth from his home on Titan, ostensibly for a diplomatic visit to the U.S. for its 500th birthday, but really in order to have a clone of himself produced.
As the plot opens in 2276, a number of factors are combining to make a diplomatic visit to the 'mother world' of Earth a neccessity.

The Two-Horned Beast is consequently an imperial dominion; for its voice was that of a dragon—“he spake as a dragon.” The Two-Horned Imperiality is terrene, not maritime in its origin.
The Dragon, the symbol of the Imperial Roman Majesty before the beasts of the earth and the sea had existence, having surrendered to the Sea-Beast “his power, and his seat, and an extensive jurisdiction,” was then restricted to that part of the Roman territory now included in the Turkish empire.
This was the imperial, the Emperor Domitian being the reigning Prince.
