Voldemort attempted to use the curse on Harry Potter as an infant - the curse was blocked by magical protection from his mother's sacrifice and somehow gave Harry some powers.
Voldemort attempted to use the curse on Harry Potter towards the end of Order of the Phoenix but was blocked by Dumbledore who transfigured a golden statue at the fountain in the atrium of the Ministry.
Resisting the effect of the curse is possible, however, and several individuals have been able to successfully stand against it, including Harry Potter, as well as both Barty Crouch Jr.

This really makes it sound as though the Imperius Curse must be something other than useful for purposes of long term or long-distance sabotage, since your puppets don't seem to be able to act upon any personal initiative and are suffering from sensory deprivation.
It cerrtainly doesn’t match up to Madam Rosemerta’s behavior in HBP where she is under the Imperius curse for three-quarters of the year and no one had even a hint.
This one, like the Imperius curse has demonstrated a nasty tendency to morph into whatever Rowling seems to need it to be whenever she has decided to use it.

I have an important post/piece in the works on the centrality of book 4 to the 7 stage development of the series and so I think, since this occurs in book 4, that this element is key to Rowling's outlook and an important aspect of her central theme of death.
There are arguments in favor of the "death penalty" that really do not rely on the idea of using death as a true penalty, but on the pragmatic consdieration of it's possible effectiveness for assuring the inability to commit further similar crimes, and these arguments constitute their own separate debate.
I think she is emphasizing the dignity of the human person this way and in particular by emphasizing the connection of that diginity with human free will, which she symbolizes in Harry's and Barty Jr's ability to resist the Imperius curse.

By being embarrassed Voldemort would want to embarrass Harry by putting him through the paces via the cruciartis curse which would show everyone that he, Voldemort, was truly the strongest.

And with the imperius curse you'll actually WANT to do whatever the person is asking.
The Imperius doesnt focus the mind it actually controls it so I think that when u tell the mind to do something it does it like its doing it itself(like when u raise your hand).
Perhaps the imperius curse allows you to overcome any mental limitations and lackings in skill, but cannot make you do anything that is other wise physically impossible.

The Imperius Curse, the Cruciatus Curse, and Avada Kedavra have been dubbed the Unforgivable Curses by the wizarding world.
Draco had enough emotional control to use Imperius on Rosmerta in attempts to kill indirectly, but when push came to shove, he couldn't look DD in the eyes and kill him.
My point, at least, was that while a person who casts the AK curse is not necessarily despicable, it's hard to imagine a worthy and virtuous person casting successfully the Cruciatus curse.
