Nuclear Weapons   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
This creates enough force to increase the density of the sphere of plutonium to the point where it is super-critical.
This implosion technique was used in the first plutonium bomb test at Alamogordo and in the Nagasaki bomb, each with an explosive power of about 20 kilotons of TNT.
When one sub-critical mass of a fissile material is held in place and another sub-critical mass is fired into it with the use of high explosives such that the assembly is then super-critical, this is called a gun-type nuclear device.

 CMT.com : Folk Implosion : Biography
The Folk Implosion subsequently signed with the Communion label and recorded a relatively long EP titled Take a Look Inside the Folk Implosion, also in 1994; they followed it with the more experimental, import-only Electric Idiot EP in 1995.
Somewhat taken aback by the song's success, London Records (who'd released the soundtrack) attempted to sign the Folk Implosion permanently, but they were reluctant to leave the certainty of Communion for uncharted larger-label waters, and hoped to see whether they could continue their success by doing things on a smaller scale.
Barlow had always insisted that the Folk Implosion was an equal partnership with Davis, despite his own well-established reputation in the underground.

Demolition By Implosion   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
The removal of structures by implosion, or controlled destruction with explosives, has become an exacting science as older high-rise structures must be removed in space restricted areas, many cases requiring adjacent structures to remain intact and protected during the process of demolition.
When utilizing implosion as a method of demolition, today's construction manager is faced with a new set of problems and decisions to make when compared to his counterpart of ten years ago.
Implosion may also be chosen when costs are found to be comparable to or even more expensive then the wrecking ball due to the convenience associated with the implosion process.

 F.A.Q. - Knapp-Storms Implosion
Implosion is a safe and effective means of razing a structure via the use of explosives on pre-determined structural members.
After the implosion, residents located in these properties will be able to return to their homes or apartments as soon as the utility companies have completed their inspections, the City of Ames has determined that any unsafe conditions have been removed, and the streets and sidewalks have been adequately cleaned.
In many implosions, it is common for adjacent properties and streets to be located only 10 to 20 feet from the structure being imploded.

Building implosion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Implosion occurs when the difference between internal to external pressure is such that a structure collapses on itself.
The building implosion technique does not rely on the difference between internal and external pressure to pull the building down, but simply on the effect of gravitational pull.
Building implosion is part of the demolition industry history which itself depends directly on explosives history.

 Howstuffworks "How Building Implosions Work"
Strictly speaking, an implosion is an event where something collapses inward, because the external atmospheric pressure is greater than the internal pressure.
But the term implosion is in common use for this sort of demolition.
According to Brent Blanchard, an implosion expert with the demolition consulting firm Protec Documentation Services, virtually every building in the world is unique.

The reason that the implosion method is more efficient is because it not only combines the masses, but also increases the density of the mass, and thereby increases the neutron multiplication factor k of the fissionable assembly.
The casting and testing of these lenses was a massive technical challenge in the development of the implosion method in the 1940s, as was measuring the speed of the shock wave and the performance of prototype shells.
The simplest way to utilize fusion is to put a mixture of deuterium and tritium inside the hollow core of an implosion style plutonium pit (which usually requires an external neutron generator mounted outside of it rather than the initiator in the core as in the earliest weapons).

Folk Implosion: Kids Soundtrack ---Ink Blot Magazine   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
Folk Implosion was conceived when John Davis, an ardent admirer of Sebadoh, sent Barlow a tape of some of his own songs.
But in the recording of this soundtrack, the duo managed to make full use of a professional studio's wealth of effects and and samplers without compromising the raw inventiveness and eclecticism that've always been part of their trademark.
Homage is paid to the eerie guitar twangs and martial beats of spaghetti-western soundtracks on "Jenny's Theme," and Sonic Youth's springy brand of punk inspires "Daddy Never Understood." Slint contributes a song, as do the Nas-influenced rapper Lo-Down, and Daniel Johnston, whose two offerings are as catchy as any 70's sitcom theme.

"Implosion" is the album in between "Ceux de Dehors" and "The Hard quest"; it contains serious movements of rhythm and form, encompassed by RIO's idiosinchratic minimalism and tendency to destroy the time signatures almost completely.

Given the Folk Implosion's new high profile, it's a bit unexpected that the duo's latest release Dare To Be Surprised isn't also on London Records (or even another major), rather than on the small indie label Communion.
Barlow always stresses that the Folk Implosion is a 50/50 partnership, and explains that the contrast between Sebadoh's ragged rock and this band's subtle funkiness is merely a question of chemistry.

 Implosion Physics
Rayleigh-Taylor, Richtmyer-Meshkov, and Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities, and the ensuing mixing that usually follows their development, are of interest because of their occurrence in inertial fusion, astrophysics, and the implosion of both a fision primary and a fusion secondary.
Another area of unstable flow which has become of significant interest is the study of compressible turbulence and mixing in high-speed jets and shear layers.
These phenomena have been extensively studied in the past to understand the resulting interface motion and material mix, which are important effects in inertial confinement fusion, for clumping in supernova explosions, and the implosion of both a fision primary and a fusion secondary.
