TheMovieBoy Review - In Her Shoes (2005)
Based on the novel by Jennifer Weiner, "In Her Shoes" is a refreshingly humane drama and a multidimensional slice-of-life, unsentimental in tone and all the more emotionally resounding because of it.
Her Maggie is a difficult character, enraging and selfish and frustrating, but Diaz aids in making her a person of depth and ultimate understanding.
At 130 minutes, "In Her Shoes" is lengthy, but never extraneous, earning every one of its scenes because each exposes a new layer to the characters or offers a penetrating observation about human nature.

Suffice it to say that the movie is not about shoes, except as metaphor - for acceptance, comfort and even love, something that the two main characters lack in their lives.

The sister-sister relationship is the crux of this 2005 comedic drama, "In Her Shoes," based on the best-selling novel by Jennifer Weiner.
Her character is far more personable, far more charming, far more agreeable than Maggie's, and Toni Collette is so much more appealing in her part than Cameron Diaz is in hers that Rose's escapades alone could have made a more engaging movie.
"In Her Shoes" may be a quintessential "woman's film," but it shows enough heart probably to win over a few males along the way.

Review: In Her Shoes - Cinematical
Directed by Curtis Hanson, In Her Shoes is already being tagged – and dismissed – as a ‘chick flick,’ centering around the relationship between sisters Maggie (Cameron Diaz) and Rose (Toni Collette) Feller as they both enter very different phases in their very different lives.
Maggie’s party-hearty, unreliable ways have made her a couch-surfing blight on her relations, while Rose’s workaholic legal career is complicating itself in the form of an ill-advised romance with a senior partner.
But In Her Shoes also has a very fresh and modern feel to it, especially when Maggie’s vagabond ways lead her to show up unannounced on the doorstep of Ella’s home in her Florida retirement community to ‘visit.’ Or, translated, sponge.
