THE CINEMA LASER DVD REVIEW-- IN LIKE FLINT
IN LIKE FLINT ($15) marked the cinematic return of super cool, super spy Derek Flint (James Coburn) in a new action packed adventure, which continues to spoof the James Bond movies.
Flint suspects that someone in Cramden’s agency is responsible for the ploy, and his search for the truth leads the super spy first to Moscow and then to a beauty spa in the Virgin Island, which just happens to neighbor the military base from which the U.S. government is launching a space platform.
The plot of IN LIKE FLINT is just about as preposterous as many of the 007 adventures, so one is never sure just how much is an intended parody of the Bond series.

DVD Savant Review: In Like Flint
Derek Flint (James Coburn) is busy talking to dolphins and performing ballet in Russia with duplicitous ballerina Natasha (Yvonne Craig), but he eventually goes to Fabulous Face to straighten things out.
The first film was pegged on making Derek Flint a fantasy joke, a SuperSpy who out Bonded James Bond; and since he really doesn't have much going for him as a character in his own right, continuing his adventures would have required some stroke of conceptual genius.
Instead, Flint is dulled down to a rather generic spy hero who's now much more friendly with his 'old pal' Cramden, and lowers himself to the level of ordinary discussions with people...

"IN LIKE FLINT" still has some of the first film's charm, but quite a few of the plot points are VERY dated and insulting, especially when viewed in the cold light of today's often harsh, overly-PC environment.
Like it or not Coburn was a great actor in his prime (see also Steve McQueen--whom women in my family detested for womanizing ways and resented me for liking--it was "the battle of the sexes" period).
And other things were pretty lame and improbable, like the de facto astronauts removing their space helmets in outer space.

dOc DVD Review: In Like Flint (1967)
A scant year later, In Like Flint was released, promising more of the same—a zany scheme, lots of lovely ladies, and the antics of ultra-cool agent Flint.
But the humor of the previous picture, which admittedly in itself felt like a bunch of disparate ideas thrown into a blender, doesn't quite gel—the set-up is interesting (especially when it is revealed that the women are actually in cahoots with some army officials), but the potential for humor feels wasted.

The DVD Journal | Quick Reviews: In Like Flint
This 1967 sequel to the popular secret agent lampoon Our Man Flint tries to top its predecessor by sending sardonic übermensch Derek Flint to Moscow, outer space, and the Isle of Uppity Brassiere Models.
Trying to connect the dots among all this is a pointless exercise, especially after Flint confronts the empowered "ladies" and wins them to his side by telling them that they're being a bunch of silly-billies who shouldn't worry their pretty little heads so.
Simply as a movie In Like Flint is further kneecapped by sloppy pacing, shoddy production values, and Lee J. Cobb looking like he's planning to make a stern call to his agent.
