20th WCP: Inalienable Rights: A Plea for Open Options
It follows that if Sue and Bill have inalienable rights to life, they have a moral obligation to opt for life and, therefore, are not acting in a morally defensible way if they, on grounds of their preferences alone, attempt to persuade others to assist them in comfortably ending their lives.
Inalienable rights are rights entailed by very basic moral principles which must be respected (except in cases where punishment is morally required or where the temporary suspension of rights is necessary for reason justified by natural law—as in cases where the social order would otherwise be irreparably damaged (viz.
An inalienable right would never be a right to possess this or that particular object, but would instead be a right to live and move within a given setting to acquire certain kinds of objects from a wide range of objects of types essential for worthwhile human existence.

Inalienable vs. Alienable Possession Even though Guarani does not have special morphol- ogy to distinguish alienable and inalienable nouns, some formal aspects indicate that there is such a dis- tinction.
Contrast 3b and 4b, which represent normal expressions of alienable posses- sion with the ungrammatical sentences in 3a and 4a, in which inalienable possession is encoded with a verb of possession.
Possession and Different Inalienable Noun Classes Before I discuss the grammatical import of the se- mantics of the different classes of inalienable nouns, a few words are in order about their semantic differ- ences.

The Electronic Journal of the Department of English
Interest in inalienable possession dates at least as far back as Lévy-Bruhl’s (1914) study in which he noted that in Melanesian languages there are different grammatical structures for nouns designating inalienable as opposed to alienable phenomena.
Inalienable nouns typically refer to ‘permanent’ features such as body parts and kinship relations, and are accompanied in many of the world’s languages by a variety of specific morphological and syntactic features which are not used with nouns referring to non-permanent (alienable) phenomena.
The concept of inalienability does not make it clear what is really going on here.’ And likewise, for German, Neumann (1966: 745) states: ‘The aim of this study is to show that the constructions used in the grammar of body parts in German...

About The CyberNation of Freedom - Liberation of the Individual
The democratic governments of the physical nations were created to defend the inalienable rights of the individual, yet these governments have used this mandate to expand their control over the individual by infringing upon the very rights they were empowered to protect.
Governments of the physical nations do not have the right to make a claim upon an individual or infringe upon an individual's inalienable rights merely because he or she was born within the current arbitrary borders of that nation.
The second, the 'Issues of Morality', are those which are outside the bounds of the protection of the individual's inalienable rights and the law and order of society, and therefore are the responsibility of each individual to decide according to his or her personal and religious beliefs.

Declaration of Independence (United States) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ideas and even some of the phrasing was taken directly from the writings of John Locke, particularly his Second Treatise on Government, titled "Essay Concerning the true original, extent, and end of Civil Government." In this treatise, Locke developed the important idea of government by consent.
It has also been used as the model of a number of later documents such as the declarations of independence of Vietnam and Rhodesia.
The original draft also used the word "inalienable", which was changed to "unalienable" (according to the OED, the two words are synonyms).

 Inalienable Rights
Inalienable is not just a pretty word, inserted by Thomas Jefferson into the Declaration of Independence for rhetorical effect.
Insistence on the inalienability of rights was a way of opposing such contracts, and it was this opposing conception-the idea of rights held in trust and the right-bearer as steward rather than owner of his rights-that triumphed in works of John Locke and the formulations of Jefferson.
But it is disturbing that Meares and Kahan do not even raise these questions, and that the only thing they have to say to the issue of inalienability is that it is unacceptably "paternalistic"-as if the indefinite waiver of a right by a whole class of persons had no effect on anyone but themselves.

The problem with this viewpoint, however, is that it focuses almost exclusively on attempting to define the adjective "inalienable" and very little on the noun "rights." While he does state he does not have space to defend a theory of natural rights, I believe he errs in not offering a definition of "rights," at all.
If human life is the basis for "defining and sanctioning one's freedom of action in a social context," one must then specify what actions are necessary for sustaining that life and asserting that right.
Thus, the standard which places conditions upon one's inalienable right to life is the very nature of what it means (what is required) to live as a rational, moral human being...in a social state.

Corporations thus lack the authority to deny people's inalienable rights, including their right to a republican form of government, and public officials lack the authority to empower corporations to deny those rights.
The Revolution thus reflected the understanding that people, otherwise existing in a state of nature, do not relinquish their inalienable rights when governments are instituted, but that governments are instituted specifically to guarantee and protect those freedoms and rights.
Thus, the founding documents of the States and the United States codify the understanding that governments are instituted to secure inalienable rights possessed by people, including their right to enjoy life and liberty, and the right to pursue and obtain happiness and safety.

In fact, the most salient characteristic of inalienable rights may be that, while rights-holders may exercise their inalienable rights for the benefit of others, a rights-holder may never surrender the right to change her mind about whether to exercise such rights or not.
A fourth reason why some rights may be inalienable stems from a general skepticism that agreements to transfer rights amounting to the control of one's destiny would ever (or very often) be obtained in the absence of incompetence, fraud, duress, mistake, or some other recognized contract defense.
