Incesticide : Nirvana : Review : Rolling Stone
Incesticide's tracks are scattered – in no particular order – and drawn from a variety of sources, including Nirvana's first 1987 demo ("Hairspray Queen"), last Sub Pop single ("Sliver"/"Dive"), the import-only EP Hormoaning (less two tracks), assorted BBC sessions and two local compilations.
Incesticide presents Nirvana in a host of settings, including a whimsical cover of a Devo B side ("Turn Around") and a pair of tunes from the Vaselines ("Molly's Lips," "Son of a Gun"), the Scottish band since mutated into Eugenius.
Incesticide is a reminder of that and – maybe more important – proof of Nirvana's ability, on occasion, to fail.

 Daily Vault - November 7, 1997
The end result, Incesticide, is spotty at times, but it also shows how good this band could be at times.
A few other moments on Incesticide just don't light any fires for me - and if long-time readers remember my review of Bleach some months ago, they won't be surprised to find out that it was a few of the older songs that let me down.
Incesticide is more of a historical portrait than a closet-cleaner release or even a bridge-gap album.

Sliver (song) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It later appeared on their compilation album Incesticide in 1992 and their 2002 'best of' album Nirvana.
Though originally released as a single in 1990, DGC re-released the song to radio to support the release of Incesticide, resulting in significant airplay.
Retail singles were not re-released for Incesticide, however the song charted in Ireland two years after release, shortly after the success of Nevermind in 1992.

As Cobain trashed their equipment, Grohl ran to the mic and began yelling "Hi, Axl!" repeatedly, referring to Guns N' Roses singer Axl Rose, with whom the band and Courtney had had a bizarre encounter prior to the show.
Nirvana released Incesticide, a collection of B-sides and rarities, in December of 1992.
Many of Nirvana's BBC radio sessions and unreleased early recordings were starting to circulate via trading circles and illegal bootlegs, so the album served to beat the bootleggers to the punch.

Nevermind doesn't capture this freewheeling indie spirit but Incesticide does, piling on some essentials in the meantime -- the pummeling "Dive," the childhood snapshot "Sliver," the terrific forgotten indie pop tune "Been a Son," and "Aneurysm," perhaps the greatest single song the group ever recorded.
Incesticide has to be one of Nirvana's best albums EVER.

Sliver was originally released by Tupelo records as a non-album, retail single in 1990.
It was released to radio and video on MTV in 1992-1993 for promotion of Incesticide, however retail singles were of Sliver not re-released for Incesticide in 1992.

Incesticide is Almost Nirvana's Best Record - Incesticide by Nirvana (USA) - Epinions.com
I didn't actually buy Incesticide until about 2 years ago, when I saw it on sale for $8 and figured it was time I dropped the dough on it, after taking it out of the local library enough times that I may as well have owned it from there.
At the time of its release, Incesticide was a veritable treasure trove of rarities, ranging from B-sides, to old vinyl singles, to the plainly obscure.
While Incesticide isn't quite as good an album as In Utero (the band's best effort), the fact that an odds and sods collection such as this is so memorable speaks to how good of a band Nirvana actually was.

Geffen Records' head of marketing, Robert Smith, says "Incesticide" was released at the band's request and is not a calculated move to cash in on the fast-rising band's success.
Meanwhile, despite the recent releases of "Incesticide" and "Homebelly Groove," DGC and Epic continue to work singles and videoclips from "Nevermind" and "Pocket Full Of Kryptonite." Nirvana's "In Bloom" and Spin Doctors' "Two Princes" are in MTV rotation.
In the past, rarity collections such as "Incesticide" were usually issued much later in a band's career or included in a boxed-set retrospective.

Incesticide - Nirvana - Music Records Shopping at dooyoo.co.uk
Incesticide was Nirvana's third album, although I don't consider it a proper album.
It was pieced together from BBC session recordings done for John Peel's and Mark Goodier's radio shows, and "B-sides, demo recordings and stuff never before available", as the sticker says.
Although Incesticide is basically a collection of (supposedly) below album standard songs and live sessions, it is surprisingly good, and well worth buying.

The sticker on it reads "Inside Incesticide: Rare B-Sides, BBC Sessions, Original Demo Recordings, Stuff Never Before Available", and six of the fifteen tracks were unreleased at the time ('Hairspray Queen', 'Aero Zeppelin', 'Big Long Now', 'Been A Son', '(New Wave) Polly' and 'Aneurysm').
'Been A Son' on 'Incesticide is a different version to that on the 'Blew' EP, as are the versions 'Aneurysm' from their respective previous releases.
According to Endino 'Hairspray Queen' and 'Aero Zeppelin' were not remastered for their release on this CD, virtually being the one-hour mix versions he did on the day of their recording.

And so, in the fiscally dark years between Nevermind and the much-delayed In Utero, Geffen Records cobbled together a pile of Nirvana b-sides and out-takes, and were so glad they had something to bleed the hungry grunge-hordes dry with that they allowed Cobain to give it the poisonous title Incesticide.
OK, 'Incesticide' doesn't contain the rarest of the Nirvana back catalogue (much of the material here had been already or has since been released on bootleg CDs).
But, 'Incesticide' is STILL a great LP that can be enjoyed by everyone, if they give it a little time.

Incesticide | Music Review | Entertainment Weekly
Instead of following 1991's Nevermind with an all-new album, they have instead bestowed upon their suddenly huge flock Incesticide -an odd-lot collection of B sides, live recordings from the BBC, demo tapes, remakes of obscure outside material, and anything else DGC found buried beneath Kurt Cobain's soiled flannel shirts.
Incesticide may smell like more than teen spirit, but don't hold that against it.
Nirvana really are punks, at least in a musical sense, and the 15 musical scraps assembled for the record rip with the raw spirit of punk rock (most of them barely make it past the two-minute mark).

Released between the groundbreaking NEVERMIND and the artsier IN UTERO, the rarities and outtakes which make up this album shed new light on Nirvana's oeuvre, filling in the gaps between official releases and providing fans with a wider variety of recordings from different sources.

"Incesticide" is the compilation record on which we can find more or less everything Nirvana had performed back to the 80's ("Bleach" not included).
The bulk of the material on "Incesticide" was left off of the albums for a very good reason: It doesn't live up to what they do as a band on the records.
There are some pretty good moments though: While the session version of "Aneurysm" isn't that different from the original (on the "SLTS" single) it is still fairly amusing to hear Kurt sing lines like, "Come on over and do the twist," and there's some nice enough riffs on the track as well.

An awesome garage/grunge record from one of America's darkest bands (no, not My Chemical Romance), Incesticide is the perfect record who found 'Bleach'; too heavy or 'Nevermind'; too mainstream.
Musician (1/93, p.89) - "...With INCESTICIDE Cobain has called up the ghost of the old, pre-famous Nirvana and asked it to go out and face the world when he cannot..."
The famous quasi-live recording conditions of the BBC sessions provide another standout, the surging, desperate "Aneurysm", which remains one of Nirvana's finest recorded moments.

 Nirvana: Incesticide (Geffen Records)
ORIGINALLY INTENDED for release by their former label under the name Cash Cow, this collection of fifteen tight and tuneful Nirvana rarities has one of 1992’s few American economic success stories retreating in haste from the smell of teen heartthrob sell-out.
Comprised of previous independent and Japanese releases, cover songs (Devo, the Vaselines), studio outtakes and demo tapes dating back to 1988, Incesticide is raw background on Nirvana for fans whose concept of Seattle Rock stops at Pearl Jam.
Incesticide says a lot about the directness and honesty of Nirvana, their emotional intensity, and their instinctive ability to make a song hook catch.
