Incisor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Incisors are the first kind of tooth in heterodont mammals.
In cats, the incisors are small and do not do much; biting off meat is done with the canines and the carnassials.
The incisors of rodents grow throughout life and are worn by gnawing.

 C-Shaped Incisor - Carlos Bóveda Z. - Endodontics - Caracas, Venezuela
The fact that the maxillary lateral incisors generally present a single root and a single canal led in the past to the belief that this is the only anatomical possibility.
The present case report describes the endodontic treatment of an invaginated maxillary left lateral incisor with 3 canals, 1 of which was a C-shaped canal.
Clinical examination revealed the maxillary left lateral incisor to have an unusually shaped, extremely round crown with a small cusp emerging from the incisal border.

Differential expression of laminin-5 subunits during incisor and molar development in the mouse   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
Similar patterns of transcription were observed in incisor and molar, suggesting that the differential expression of laminin-5 subunits in the IDE might be involved in the histogenesis of the IDE and ameloblast differentiation.
Throughout incisor development, intense expression for all laminin-5 subunits was restricted to the labial side of the cervical loop.
The asymmetrical expression of laminin-5 might be related to incisor morphogenesis and to the differences in histogenesis and cytodifferentiation of the IDE that exist in the labial versus lingual aspect of the cervical loop.

Incisor teeth are found in the rostral portion of the mouth, but they are absent from the upper jaw.
Canine teeth are absent in cattle, unless the fourth incisor (I 4), or corner incisor, is considered to be a canine tooth.
The I 1 incisors are identified by the white arrows and I 2 incisors by the red arrows in photographs 10a and 10b.

Canids and hyaenids have robust incisors in parabolic arcades, whereas felid incisors are weaker, particularly in mediolateral bending, and are located in transversely linear arcades.
Incisors in linear arcades can be weaker because they are better buttressed by adjacent incisors than is the case for incisors in curved arcades.
The upper incisors of saber- toothed felids tend to equal or exceed those of living (conical-toothed) felids in strength and are located in moderately parabolic arcades.

A peg-shaped lateral incisor could be defined as a tooth with reduced mesio-distal diameter and with proximal surfaces converging markedly in the incisal direction (1).
The inheritance of peg-shapped upper lateral incisors has been rather commonly assumed to be associated with the genetic mechanism that causes the missing of upper lateral incisors (1).
There are two treatment options for malformed lateral incisors: 1) to move the maxillary canines forward and reshape them to simulate the extracted malformed lateral incisors; 2) to stand the canines in a Class I relationship and to restore the missing tooth structure by increasing the size of a peg-shaped lateral incisor (10).

 THE PERMANENT INCISOR TEETH
Maxillary incisors by definition arise in the premaxilla (which is merged into the maxilla in humans); mandibular incisors are the teeth that articulate with them.
Facial: The mandibular central incisor is the smallest tooth in the dental arch.
The largest incisors are the tusks of elephants and their extinct relatives, the mammoth and mastodon which died out at the end of the last Ice Age.

Porcelain laminates Correcting canines in the lateral incisor position
The tissue position normally will be higher than that of a lateral incisor, due to the larger facial contours of the canine; and the bone will be more prominent over the root structure, due to its longer and larger dimensions.
Since her orthodontist had moved the canines into the position of the lateral incisors that were congenitally missing, the first premolars now were in the place that the canines should be.
Note that the height of the tissue above "lateral incisors" is higher than normal, due to the prominence of the canine root.

AN INFORMAL REPORT ON A SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPE STUDY OF A HUMANLIKE INCISOR FROM CRE
Paleontologists at the Smithsonian Institute were understandably critical of the human status of the fossil tooth and concluded after examination that it was a tooth from a class of fossil ganoid fish known as pycnodonts, possibly Sargodon.
I first showed the tooth to a dental histologist who concurred with the opinion of other dentists that the tooth grossly resembles a human deciduous maxillary incisor though he felt that the curvature of the cingulum was unusually prominent compared to that of most human teeth.
He even stated that the crown of the tooth has a strong similarity to the upper deciduous incisor of man! He also described facets on the lingual surface of the teeth near the incisal edge but these were more punctuate in his specimen.

To attaining this position, the condyle is moved anteriorly on to the convexity of the glenoid fossa which permits contact of the incisor tips.

PCSO Bulletin: Summer 2000 Dr. John Moore Lecture Summary   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
The decision to choose the single lower incisor extraction treatment option is based on facial balance, where extraction of premolars would have a negative effect, and when the amount of crowding in the mandibular arch is greater than that in the maxillary arch.
Triangular or bell shaped maxillary incisors are preferred as they are more favorable for interproximal stripping, which is almost always indicated to compensate for the tooth size discrepancy created with a single lower incisor extraction.

Response of human jaw muscles to axial stimulation of the incisor -- Brinkworth et al. 547 (1): 233 -- The Journal of ...
This is the first study to investigate the reflex response of jaw muscles to mechanical stimulation of the human incisor in the axial direction under controlled conditions.
Since the bite force is measured from the lower bite bar this upward movement of the jaw would cause a small increase in the observed force and since this increase is time locked with the stimulus it would not be averaged out to zero.
Hence the reflex contribution of the PMRs may be altered depending on the tooth that is stimulated (incisor or molar), the movement or position of the jaw, and the stimulus parameters used such as rate of force application.
