 | | The following proclamation was distributed in Athens, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Greek War of Independence, during which the ruling dictatorial regime organized festivities to celebrate the event. |
 | | It is signed by 133 intellectuals, artists, politicians, scientists, military, etc., representing all shades of political opinion in Greece, from the right, the center, and the left. |
 | | The text was published in the Athens newspaper To Vima which was obliged to omit a number of passages, on account of the severe Press Law which threatens with closing, fines, and imprisonment any newspaper and its editors who publish material considered as detrimental to the junta's image. |
