 Independence Hall
Construction of the Pennsylvania State House, which came to be known as Independence Hall, began in 1732.
Independence Hall is, by every estimate, the birthplace of the United States.
Also important is that the Congress was split into two houses, the upper house (originally in the upper floor of adjoining Congress Hall), and the lower house (main floor of Congress Hall); the first gave equal power to all the states regardless of size and the second gave proportional representation according to size.

 Independence Hall - Quotes
As always, visitors to Independence Hall are welcome to walk where our forefathers declared our independence and gave birth to a new nation-- where "we, the people," have proclaimed Liberty throughout our nation's history, including defining moments in the abolition of slavery, the Civil War era, women's suffrage and the civil rights movement.
Franklin's final public act in 1790 was to submit to Congress, meeting in Independence Hall, a memorial 'recommending dissolution of the slavery system.' Franklin had spent nearly 60 of his 84 years actively attempting to abolish slavery, serving as the first president of the Pennsylvania Society for Promoting the Abolition of Slavery.
Speaking in Independence Hall he said, "I have never had a feeling, politically, that did not spring from the sentiments embodied in the Declaration of Independence." The Declaration, Lincoln said, gave promise that in due time the weight would be lifted from the shoulders of all men and all should have an equal chance.

 History of Independence Hall (1859)
In her silent halls were assembled the poets, gods and goddesses, heroes and heroines, "while beauty in eternal sleep, seemed dreaming of herself." It also contained the statue of Minerva, in which the sculptor appears to have made the immortal spirit of the goddess speak through the cold and lifeless marble.
But Independence Hall is a shrine at which millions of American hearts worship and beat with thrilling intensity; it is a Mecca where unrestricted homage is paid - on whose altars sweet-smelling incense is burned as Liberty's oblation - and to which the jealous yet admiring eyes of every nation are turned.
In fact, the hall is lumbered with beds, looking-glasses, chairs, tables, pictures, ready-made clothes, and all the trash and trumpery which usually grace the premises of a knight of the hammer.
