Dodds resided on the home farm in Independence township for some time after his marriage; then farmed two years in Brooke county, W. Va., and afterward lived in Independence seven years, where he was dealing in stock.

On Sept. 6, the Independence Township Board of Trustees is expected to rule whether residents can vote on a legal defense fund that would impose a half-mill tax once to put $750,000 into a fund to fight lawsuits from developers pushing to defy the master plan.
Neil Wallace, an attorney leading the petition drive for the defense fund, and leaders of Citizens for Orderly Growth remain steadfast in their plea for township residents to vote on a tax to limit sprawl in their community where nearly half the land is greenspace.
Millage supporters were angry the township board has failed to make a decision on the ballot measure, which was presented to the board in early July.
