Independentist flags in La Plata region (Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay: 1810-1840)
Editorial note: Find below links to independentist flags from the early 19th century used in the region of La Plata, which played a major role in the flag history of three independent countries which later arose in that area: Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay.
Originated the current argentine national flag (which in turn inspired many argentine provincial flags) and, thru Louis Aury, is the ancestor of almost all central american national flags.

Independentist feeling is spurred by a worsening economic conjuncture which has underlined Quebec’s vulnerable position in the Canadian and North American capitalist economy.
But the independentist movement as such is a relatively recent phenomenon which developed during the 1960s, and only during the last year or so became a mass movement drawing into its ranks thousands of industrial workers as well as students, clerical and professional layers.
As long as there is no independentist party on the federal level, the NDP may continue to serve as an electoral vehicle for reformist demands on the Ottawa government without, however, building a serious organization in Quebec.

Bill C-20 is an eloquent example of the fact that this government tries, as the minister said earlier in his speech, to protect Quebecers against themselves or against sovereignists, their representatives and their independentist leaders.
They have put their trust in independentist leaders by electing, in the last two consecutive federal elections, a very clear majority of members of the Bloc Quebecois to this House.
To think that this House can stand in for independentist leaders and the national assembly, where sovereignists have the majority, and that it can ignore the opposition of the members of the Bloc Quebecois shows a lack or even an absence of respect for Quebec's democracy.

IU and PNV both pointed out that the arrests were legally unsound and have clear political motivations intended to strike a blow at the independentist movement and favour the government’s candidate in the coming May 13th elections to the Basque Parliament.
Then came Pepe Rei, editor of the popular independentist magazine Ardi Beltza (with over 8,000 subscribers) who was arrested for "pointing to the victims of future ETA attacks" because he investigated the collaboration of Spanish journalists with the PP government to manufacture a propaganda campaign aimed at criminalizing the Basque nationalist left.
Actions like those taken by Garzon and the PP government against the legal Basque independentist movement only serve to justify ETA’s thesis that the Spanish state has placed Euskadi in an exceptional situation in which the only way left for those who struggle for independence is the armed struggle.
