 Good science books – Animals
A tawny frogmouth chases a series of animals for food but, before it can catch them, they disappear by settling on a background where their camouflage is most effective or by disguising themselves as a twig.
As each animal is shown only once, for example the echidna is shown in Waterways and there is nothing to indicate that it also occurs in most other habitats, the book is not an animal atlas, but it is exceptional in providing information about a broad range of animal life.
Other groups are nomads (animals which carry their houses with them, such as turtles, shellfish and hermit crabs), weavers (several birds and spiders), carpenters (woodpecker, beaver, carpenter bee and woodworm), and bricklayers (oven bird, termites, bees and wasps, albatross and mudlark).
