Indigo Airlines - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Indigo is regarded as the originator of two new categories of corporate jet air travel service: per seat, high frequency and the public or commercial corporate jet.
Indigo and American Express management, as well as FAA adminsitration, argued that Indigo's use of Teterboro was appropriate and preferable to local alternatives such as LaGuardia or Newark which were designed and configured for large airline aircraft and to prohibit the company from accessing the airport was an unfair discrimination under federal airport funding criteria.
Indigo management also argued that the company helped advance the state of general aviation security and pointed to its advanced security procedures that were unique to the industry.

 News Release
Rothman hailed Indigo’s apparent decision to stop its service out of Teterboro saying that it was, in large measure a reaction to the intense pressure he has helped build against the airline, but vowed to tighten restrictions to prevent Indigo or any other airline from starting scheduled service at Teterboro again.
Indigo had offered tickets to random customers over the phone and Internet, and because it operated under the guise of a “charter” airline, its passengers were not subject to the rigorous security checks mandated by Congress at all major airports in the United States.
Indigo initiated scheduled service with its fleet of planes between Teterboro Airport in New Jersey and Chicago Midway Airport in Illinois on March 3, 2003.

Indigo’s operations at Teterboro must be shut down before it is too late.
In light of Indigo’s regular jet aircraft operations, which in some ways resemble those of a scheduled carrier, and the proximity of Teterboro to Manhattan, we believe that a security review of the situation may be warranted.
Rothman said that the need to resolve the Indigo at Teterboro issues must be dealt with immediately, especially after the Department of Homeland Security issued a warning last week about terrorists’ fixation on using small planes in attacks.

At yesterday’s hearing of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, of which he is a member, Rothman passionately expressed his dissatisfaction with the FAA and called for an immediate explanation for the agency’s lack of action.
