  25th Infantry Division Association: The Units
The 2nd Battalion (Airborne) 503rd Infantry Regiment was reactivated on 16 December 2001 as a parachute infantry battalion and assigned to the 173rd Airborne Brigade stationed at Vicenza, Italy.
The 66th Infantry Platoon (Combat Tracker) was activated on 15 February 1968 and served with the 25th Infantry Division until inactivated in Vietnam on 15 March 1971 with the departure of the 2nd Brigade.
On 16 October 1989 the 1st Battalion was reactivated as a parachute infantry battalion and assigned to the 6th Infantry Division with station at Fort Richardson, Alaska On 16 April 1998 the 1st Battalion was reassigned to the 172nd Infantry Brigade.

Divisions either organized before or during World War I did not use the designation "infantry." The re-designation of these divisions as infantry came sometime after World War I when the divisions' structure was reorganized to include specialists in a wide variety of functions.
Beside the infantry division, motorized and airborne divisions were formed as well as a light (truck) division, a light (jungle) division, and a mountain division.
The airborne division was initially a miniature version of the infantry division with the addition of a small antiaircraft battalion, one parachute, and two glider regiments.

The 3rd Division (re-designated as the 3rd Infantry Division August 1, 1942) was constituted November 12, 1917 in the Regular Army and organized at Camp Greene, NC November 21, 1917.
The division was composed of the 4th, 7th, 30th, and 38th Infantry Regiments, the 10th, 18th, and 76th FA Regiments and the 6th Engineer Regiment with a total of 28,000 men.
Nicknamed the "Marne Division" after the historic battle of the Marne River in France during WWI, the reputation of the 3rd Infantry Division equals the 24th.

On April 30, the division was ordered to move to Tunisia, where it was assigned to II Corps and moved into the line to complete the destruction of the Afrika Corps.
On February 2, the division was ordered to assume the defensive, which it did from that time until March 28, when it was relieved by the 34th Infantry Division.
During this great drive, 1800 prisoners were taken by the division, countless enemy tanks, vehicles, and guns were smashed; the 362nd and 715th Infantry Divisions were annihilated (credit 1st Armored division, 133rd Infantry Regiment, and 1st SSF with assists), and the Hermann Georing Division was badly cut up.

Initially intended as part of an Indian armoured division, this former cavalry brigade was sent to the Western Desert in the spring of 1941, where it was overrun and destroyed by German tanks.
The division trained extensively but with very few tanks — the four tank battalions assigned to 1st Indian Armoured Brigade had three M3 Stuart tanks each, though a number of the obsolete India Pattern light tanks were used for crew training.
Division headquarters moved to Iraq in June 1942, where it took command of the shattered remnants of 3rd Indian Motor Brigade and the 252nd Indian Armoured Brigade, which still had no tanks.

I was with the 101st when we RIP'd (Relieved in Place) the 3rd ID in that region.
To imply that those trucks could have been loaded and then driven away unnoticed, under the watchful eye of the 3rd ID is absolutely ludicrous.

Comments: please e mail any information on raymond eugene scott who was in the war in korea in about 1952 1953 in the 7th infantry division with the 32 nd regimen.
He was stationed out of Fort Indian Town Gap, Pa. All I know is that he was in the 7th Recon.
