Environmental studies in agriculture continue to be challenging issues to be tackled by the Agricultural Scientists.
Some of the important environmental concerns in agriculture are soil, ground water, and air pollution due to excess application of chemical fertilizer, spray of insecticides and pesticides, spraying of weedicides etc..
In this article an attempt is made to suggest a stratified sampling design in which not only the spatial nature of these environmental variables has been taken care by incorporating spatial correlation based on auxiliary character in selecting the sample but also the effect of clustering properties of environmentally polluted neighboring areal units is considered.

 Statistical commission suggests alternative methodology to estimate horticultural crops
In its interim report on revamping the Indian statistical system, the NSC headed by former RBI governor C Rangarajan has also stressed the need for the agriculture ministry and National Crop Forecasting Centre (NCFC) to put in place an objective method of forecasting crop production.
The programme of forecasting agricultural output using space, agrometerology and land based observations should be actively pursued.
Efforts should be made to reduce the diversity of agencies involved in field work and agricultural and statistical personnel should be used for better control of field operations.
