The Bell Farm at Indian Head consisted of 53,000 acres and was so huge and out of the ordinary that on many occasions the passenger trains would stop and let the passengers watch the harvesting operation.
In 1887 the Dominion Experimental Farm (Indian Head Research Farm) was founded here as one of the original research stations in Canada and today is still doing research and giving valuable information to farmers.
Indian Head was incorporated as a town in 1902 and in that year the Canadian Journal published by James McAra noted that Indian Head was the largest point of initial shipment of wheat in the world.

 Indian Head Migratory Bird Sanctuary - Environment Canada
The Indian Read Bird Sanctuary covers part of the Canada Agriculture Experimental Farm Tree Nursery which lies in the mixed-grass prairie ecoregion of Saskatchewan.
The Tree Nursery at the Indian Head Experimental Farm, established in 1902 by the Federal Department of the Interior, was given bird sanctuary status on May 5, 1924 by Order-In-Council P.C. In 1948, the Sanctuary was inspected by two wildlife officials to determine the effect of drought on the value of the Sanctuary.
The area is patrolled by the Indian Head, Saskatchewan detachment of the R.C.M.P. This text is an excerpt from "A Summary of Background Information on National Wildlife Areas in the Western and Northern Region", Canadian Wildlife Service, Western and Northern Region, November 1983.

 Indian Head Shelterbelt Centre • Saskatchewan's Environmental Champions
The PFRA Shelterbelt Centre was established at Indian Head, Saskatchewan in 1901 to supply prairie hardy tree and shrub seedlings to meet these needs.
After installation of irrigation facilities at Indian Head in 1965, the Sutherland operation was discontinued and the productive capacity of the Indian Head nursery increased to 7 million trees annually.
In 1963, the Shelterbelt Centre at Indian Head Saskatchewan became part of PFRA.

56 south of the Qu'Appelle Valley near the town of Indian Head may be puzzled at the incongruity of a round stone barn with a cylindrical wooden silo rising out of the center.
The barn dates from 1882 and is one of the last buildings on the Bell Farm, one of the so-called "Bonanza farms" that were attempted at the end of the 19th century in the west of Canada and the United States.
By the spring of 1882, even before the CP tracks extended to Indian Head, the Maj. was breaking (the first plowing) the virgin prairie.

This 2,000 resident town was named by the CPR for an aboriginal's skull found near the railway station by a survey crew.
Others say the town is named for the westerly peak of a group of hills to the southeast, commonly called "the head" or "Indian Head," based on an early missionary's reference based on a translation of its aborginial name Ustiquanuci.

 History of the PFRA Shelterbelt Centre
A second nursery was established in 1913 at Sutherland, Saskatoon and in 1914 production of coniferous tree species was included at the Indian Head nursery.
A series of improvements began at this time including a new water reservoir for irrigation and cold storage facilities for tree and shrub storage.
Major plantings were established at this time at Lyleton, Manitoba; Porter Lake, Alberta; Aneroid, Saskatchewan and Conquest, Saskatchewan.

 Western Canada Baseball Cuban Connection
The early teams in Indian Head, Saskatchewan had a core of Cuban players (the Florida Cubans had toured Saskatchewan in 1952, and won the '52 Indian Head Tournament playing as the Indian Head Rockets.) The Cubans also captured top money in the 1952 Camrose Tournament.
In June, 1953, Jim Robinson of Indian Head sent a letter to officials of the Camrose Tournament with news of the Rockets' roster.
They are without a doubt the speediest club on the diamond anywhere in Western Canada, lots of hustle and real crowd pleasers.
