Shortly after the fall of Rangoon, IV Corps was withdrawn from the control of Fourteenth Army and placed under the newly activated Twelfth Army.
As of 2004, IV Corps is based in Tezpur and part of the Eastern Command.
IV Corps consists of the 2nd Mountain Division, at Dibrugarh, 5th Mountain Division, and 21st Infantry (or Mountain?) Division at Rangia.

 XII Corps
Pakistan's XI corps and XII corps, which had been stationed in Peshawar and Quetta, were believed to have moved east, reinforcing the V corps in Karachi, whose role had been to intercept any Indian attempt to cut the Karachi-Lahore road.
The X corps at Rawalpindi was in position across the Line of Control in Kashmir, and the four mountain divisions near the LoC had been reinforced with the three brigades that have moved into Skardu.
As of early 2001 the Corps apparently consisted only of the 41 Infantry Division, and it was suggested that, to make this Corps a viable Corps, one more division will have to be raised, having lost 40 Infantry Division to IV Corps.

On 30 Apr, Indian IV Corps under the command of Lieutenant General Frank Messervy took control of Pegu after 5 days of fighting against a hastily assembled Japanese unit under the command of Major General Hideji Matsui, who led mostly support and naval personnel, not combatants.
