  Indian Institutes of Management - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad was established in 1961 as an autonomous institution by the Government of India in collaboration with the Government of Gujarat and the Indian Industry and is the second oldest IIM.
The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, was established as the first national institute for Post-Graduate studies and Research in Management by the Government of India in November 1961 in collaboration with MIT Sloan School of Management, the Government of West Bengal, The Ford Foundation and Indian industry.
IIM Calcutta shifted to its new campus at Joka, a suburb of Kolkata, with the admission of the twelfth batch in 1975.

 The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs)
For all IIMs, the minimum eligibility criterion for admission to PGP is at least a three-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent in any discipline recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)/ All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) as eligible for Post-Graduate Studies in Management.
For Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Aided Management (PGDCM), a candidate is required to send a crossed demand draft payable in Kolkata for Rs.600/- in favour of Indian Institute of Management Calcutta along with a self-addressed envelope of size 10” x 5” between August 1 and November 1, 2003.
Note (for all IIMs): Candidates who are currently in their final year of Bachelor's degree (or its equivalent) can also apply, provided they expect to complete all their exams and other requirements for obtaining the qualifying degree before June 30, 2004.

The IITs (Indian institutes of Technology) and IIMs (Indian institutes of Management) are government funded institutes which are ranked highest in their respective fields.
Indian media since it is so occupied with important things like Hollywood, Bollywood, cricket etc., does not bother to check the veracity of these advertisements appearing in their papers.
The institute (and it is not clear whether it is the current students, the management or alumni) launched a hideous assault with fake blogs created only a few days ago to discredit the article.

Since the IIMs are the best management institutes in the country, let’s do a comparison of the Ivy colleges with the IIMs.
The background of students at these institutes is largely science or engineering, whereas at Ivy League institutes, it is a healthy mix of different streams.
The IIMs might be the best management institutes in the country, but we are still playing second fiddle to the Ivy League institutes.

In India, B-schools have a fixation with showcasing placements records; that is not the case with the IIMs, which have had the best placements in India because of their thrust on internal excellence and not on working as an employment generation agency.
In a number of management institutes, one academician teaches at more than one B-school and all schools display him in their survey sheets as their faculty member.
The Indian Institutes of Management, especially IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta, should not stay away from domestic rankings, not only for their own good but also for the sake of other B-schools, aspiring B-school students and placement entities.

Instead of subsidising IIM students who get high salaries on graduating and are therefore in a position to pay for their education, the government should be considering improving education at lower levels, "to enable a larger number of students from diverse backgroundsto gain admission into IIMs," said Mr Banga.
According to Mr Banga, the actual cost of training a student at IIM-A is Rs.4 lakh, and (at the current fee level of Rs.1.5 lakh) students at this institute are already subsidised to the extent of Rs.2.5 lakh.
