The postal services should run on their own and no subsidy will be forthcoming in a few years to come.
The basic postal services are facing stiff competition from private couriers and the volume of work is dropping as a result of big strides in communication technology; therefore downsizing the workforce and effecting severe cuts in the working cost should be enforced strictly.

I think the postal service should be looked at simply as an existing massive infrastructure, where the actual delivery of mail will continue to be a loss-making enterprise, but something that cannot be done away with obviously.
And although, its traditional postal service is still loss-making the other unconventional services more than make up for it resulting in annual profits of $400+ million and a valuation of $13 billion with prospective privatization around the corner.

In a number of British-controlled areas scattered around the Indian Ocean, Indian stamps were used to prepay postage until the establishment of local postal systems (still under the general control of British India) permitted these areas to issue their own stamps (and thereby garner the revenues therefrom).

Indian stamps were used until the P.O. was turned over to British East African administration in 1895 when overprinted stamps were issued.
