Indian Military Academy (IMA) is where the bodies and minds of the trainees are moulded to have the tensility of the finest tempered steel together with qualities such as camaraderie, team-spirit, critical appreciation of a given or emerging instinct with an inbuilt urge never to give-up.
In consonance with national aspirations, the Indian Military Academy was redesignated as the National Defence Academy in January 1950.
What distinguishes the military leadership from other kinds is that it is a leadership of a kind that demands tapping of the last ounce of individual's physical and psychic resources on the battle field.

 Obituary
After partition in 1947 and the division of the old Indian Army between India and Pakistan, Ingall was selected by the C-in-C India, Field Marshal Sir Claude Auchinleck, as first commandant of the Pakistan Military Academy, established at Kakul.
In spite of facilities which were nowhere near the level of those enjoyed by the Indian Military Academy at Dehra Dun, Ingall won the confidence of his cadets and instructors.
He kept in touch with the academy for the rest of his life, making his last visit as recently as last year when he took questions from an audience of 800 cadets in the hall named after him.

A career soldier and an alumnus of the Indian Military Academy, Col Anand Singh Rawat was commissioned into the Sikh Light Infantry in June 1982.
He was also a Brigade Major of an Infantry brigade operating in the North Eastern States of Indian and served as an instructor at the Commando Wing of the Infantry School and the prestigious Indian Military Training Team at Bhutan.
