The Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology is not responsible for maintaining cemeteries in Indiana.
Removal of artifacts, burial objects, grave markers, or human remains, without prior approval from the Department of Natural Resources, or in violation of a plan previously approved by the Department, may result in criminal charges being brought.
Following notification, a number of results may occur: (1) the ground disturbing activity may continue with or without conditions, or in accordance with an approved, systematic plan for scientific recovery, analysis, and disposition of the material; (2) the situation may be resolved under other law; or (3) the area may be protected and avoided.

Since Indiana has no mountains and hasn’t had wild bears living in the state for generations, DNR officials decided not to recall the brochures.
When summer rolled around and Indiana hunters started buying their yearly licenses, most immediately noticed the additional fl bear and mountain lion licenses that were available.
To appease Indiana’s angry hunters, the Department of Natural Resources recently released some of the new species into the wild.

This case is among the first in the United States to include the use of asset forfeiture to combat environmental crime.
