Indiana is bounded on the north by Lake Michigan and the state of Michigan; on the east by Ohio; on the south by Kentucky, with which it shares the Ohio River as a border; and on the west by Illinois.
Indiana is home to a sizeable and influential proportion of Mennonite and Amish Christians, particularly in Elkhart and LaGrange Counties in the north, and a smaller number in Parke County in the west.
Indiana is located within the Corn Belt, and the state's agricultural methods and principal farm outputs reflect this: a feedlot-style system raising corn to fatten hogs and cattle.

Indiana state parks have banned firewood from areas known to be infested with emerald ash borer -- an invasive pest that destroys ash trees.
State officials say all Indiana state parks, forests, reservoirs and recreation areas will be off-limits during the upcoming camping season to such firewood.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources established the policy that also limits hardwood firewood from the lower peninsula of Michigan and 13 quarantined counties in Ohio.

The largest Indiana state park, Brown County State Park is east of Bloomington and south of nearby Nashville.
McCormick's Creek is Indiana's first state park, and has some beautiful scenery including waterfalls, limestone formations, and the White River, which flows along the west end of the park on its way to the Wabash River.
Up on the north side of the park is Wolf Cave, a small crack in the rock that leads from one side of a small hill through to the other side, for a fifteen-minute tight squeeze.

Conversion of the Indiana landscape to agricultural use and the unregulated hunting of white-tailed deer resulted in their elimination from the state by 1893.
The first-ever regulated hunting season for white-tailed deer in Indiana occurred in November of 1951 when Brown County State Park, among other sites, was opened to hunting because of unacceptable levels of deer damage to crops and woodlands.
Studies by state parks naturalists Jim Eagelman (Brown Co.), Tim Cordel (Potato Creek), and Fred Wolley (Pokagon), and studies by Dr. George Parker, Dept. Forestry and Natural Resources, Purdue University, determined that over-browsing by white-tailed deer was responsible for a decline in plant species in state parks.
