Despite their superficially passerine-like appearance, the 17 mainly green or olive honeyguides of the family Indicatoridae are members of the order Piciformes, allied with the  other, more typical-looking piciform birds, the barbets (Capitonidae), the toucans (Ramphastidae) and the woodpeckers (Picidae).
Perhaps the major point is that the Indicatoridae are distinctive, and not particularly close to one or another of the piciform families.
Breeding seasonality is clear-cut in the near-temperate Yellow-rumped Honeyguide, and in populations of Greater, Lesser and Scaly-throated Honeyguides at corresponding latitudes, all of which breed in the hemispherically equivalent spring and summer.

 AllRefer.com - honeyguide (Vertebrate Zoology) - Encyclopedia
honeyguide, small plainly colored Old World bird of the family Indicatoridae, known for its habit of leading man and some lower animals (notably the honey badger) to the nests of wild bees.
Honeyguides lay their eggs in the nests of hole-nesting birds and the young, on hatching, kill their nest mates with special needle-sharp bill hooks; they are then able to consume all the food brought by their foster parents.
Honeyguides are classified in the phylum Chordata, subphylum Vertebrata, class Aves, order Piciformes, family Indicatoridae.

The Indicatoridae have lost more of the ordinary features of the reproductive cycle than the other parasitic groups.
Other plates show habitats, the amazing bill and foot specializations of the nestlings, eggs of parasites and hosts, and Greater and Lesser honey-guides feeding on bee-comb.
The honey-guides (family Indicatoridae) consist of eleven species arranged in four genera.
