 | | An informal network of indigenous scientists, lawyers, community educators, conservation practitioners and activists, the IPBN has facilitated an open-ended and ongoing discussion among indigenous peoples concerning the opportunities within the Convention for promoting, preserving and protecting their rights to manage, control and benefit from their own knowledge and resources. |
 | | Given the central importance of indigenous women in the conservation and transmission of traditional knowledge and practices, the IPBN believes the recognition accorded women in the Preamble needs to be carried into the interpretation of all elements of the Convention. |
 | | Indigenous peoples also have a direct interest and expertise in the CBDs deliberations on specific areas of biological diversity, marine and coastal, agricultural, terrestrial as well as on overarching issues such as intellectual property rights, taxonomy, and public education. |
