French Indochina was formed in October 1887 from Annam, Tonkin, Cochin China, and the Kingdom of Cambodia; Laos was added in 1893.
Immediately this allowed Japan better access to China in the Sino-Japanese War, against the forces of Chiang Kai-shek, but it was also part of Japan's strategy of domination of the Pacific Ocean, helped greatly by the success of its ally Germany in defeating Pacific powers the Netherlands (see Dutch East Indies) and France.
The partition was agreed to at the Geneva Conference, where the United States of America, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, France and the People's Republic of China also settled a number of outstanding disputes relating to the Korean War.

With Burma, China accepted the McMahon alignment as the basis of the boundary, and with Nepal, "adjustments were made in accordance with the principles of equality, mutual benefit, friendship and mutual accommodation." The Chinese maps showed Mount Everest within China, but China accepted the Nepali (and general) view that the peak itself marked the boundary.
China handed a letter of Chou En-lai that was written to Nehru on September 8 in a sharply worded statement that the "trespassing and provocations by Indian troops" caused the armed clash at Longju.
China urged Russia not to release the statement, but it was circulated that night, which indicated the agreement of the "leading circles" of Soviet Union regretting the incident.

 The Cham Muslims of Indo-China
We hear of the Muslim minorities in the Soviet Union, China and India due to their large numbers and majority-minority tensions, and sometimes of the smaller Muslim communities in Burma, Thailand and the Philippines.
But, it seems that we never hear of the Muslims of Indo-China, as their numbers have never been large and because they have never really had any political or economic influence or power in their native lands.
Large Muslim colonies were flourishing in Southern China, and small Muslim settlements were spring up along the route, just as those of the Indians had done earlier.

I do seriously believe India and China will at least have some sort of border clash in the future, given the unresolved border and the contentious issue of Tibet.

In period of 1892-1896 the particular set of stamps used for Indo-china was issued the first time including 14 stamps in the same desigh but different in colors and face value.
The stamp set " Grasset " of Indo - China was issued in the period from 1904 to 1906 including 17 values in the same design.
