As of 2005 the Indonesian Air Force is having a logistics crisis, especially for the F-16 Fighting Falcons and A-4 Skyhawks that account for almost 80% of the total number of Indonesian fighter aircraft.
In response to this embargo, in 2003 the Indonesian Air Force bought two Sukhoi Aerospace Su-27 Flankers, and two Sukhoi Aerospace Su-30 Flanker-D. Along with the fighter comes the armament, the AA-10 Alamo air-to-air missile.
And also, by the cooperation with local military equipment manufacturer such as Pindad and Hoverindo Nusa Persada, Indonesian military is now capable of manufacturing its local-made military equipment such as sub-machine gun, armored cavalry, recoinessance aircraft, chopper corvette, submarine, and even hovercraft, which some of them are now under research.

Defense Minister Mohammad Mahfud said on Sunday that only two of the Indonesian air force's 26 C-130 Hercules transports were airworthy at the time because of a shortage of spare parts that he blamed on a U.S. embargo imposed in 1999.
But the ban on spare parts sales was quietly relaxed last year to allow the air force and navy - which were not blamed for human rights abuses in Timor - to purchase non-lethal equipment.
The embassy statement said that the Indonesian air force had been notified on Sept. 22 that commercial sales of spare parts for the C-130s were no longer subject to the ban.
