The World Bandy Championships took place in Stockholm in January 2006, but the game was perfected in our county by James Tebbutt, a Bluntisham local, in 1891.
Today there are over 600 Bandy clubs in Sweden and it's played enthusiastically throughout the rest of Scandinavia, the Russian Federation, the USA and Canada - in fact, anywhere where the winter weather is harsh enough to provide a frozen landscape large enough to accommodate the players.
Bandy will be trialled in the 2010 Winter Olympics and if it proves a success, it could become one of the regular sports from 2014.

The USA Rink Bandy Selects nipped the Gustavus Bandy Club 7-6 on Saturday, March 11, 2006 at Don Roberts Arena on the Gusatvus Adolphus College Campus in St. Peter, MN.
This was the first ever official on- campus bandy game in the USA between an actual collge bandy team and another opponent.
Hopefully, this game will be the launching point for bandy to reach the college level in club team form and maybe will eventually lead to a team in the USA Bandy League or inter-college bandy games.

Russian women’s bandy coach accepted Wednesday’s 7-0 victory over the United States, but diplomatically suggested that he wished the game had been “more carefully” played, during the Women’s World Bandy Championships at Roseville’s John Rose Oval.
The Canadien bandy ladies fought hard and managed to keep the ball out of their net during the first halv, but after a couple of Norwegian goals in the beginning of the second half Canada was unable to strike back.
