Inelastic collision - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Inelastic collision is a collision in which some of the kinetic energy of the colliding bodies is converted into internal energy in at least one body such that kinetic energy is not conserved.
In nuclear physics, an inelastic collision is one in which the incoming particle causes the nucleus it strikes to become excited or to break up.
Deep inelastic scattering is a method of probing the structure of subatomic particles in much the same way as Rutherford probed the inside of the atom (see Rutherford scattering).

Elasticity (economics) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For such goods, the price elasticity of demand might be considered inelastic.
Notice that when E is between negative infinity and negative one, demand is elastic.
When E is between negative one and zero, demand is inelastic.

Elastic and Inelastic Scattering in Electron Diffraction and Imaging
Inelastic scattering is usually considered as an "absorption effect" when one is considering elastically scattered electrons, and it is phenomenologically represented by an imaginary potential.
The theory of inelastic electron diffraction is complex and difficult because of the incoherent scattering characteristics of the inelastic electrons and, thus, is rarely discussed in the existing books.
Inelastic scattering processes due to phonon scattering, valence excitations and single core electron excitations are described in detail.

 Columns: Inelastic Buckling
The tangent-modulus theory tends to underestimate the strength of the column, since it uses the tangent modulus once the stress on the concave side exceeds the proportional limit while the convex side is still below the elastic limit.
The reduced-modulus theory tends to overestimate the strength of the column, since it is based on stiffness reversal on the convex side of the column.
The critical load of inelastic buckling is in fact a function of the transverse displacement w.

 Inelastic Collisions
This Java applet deals with the extreme cases of a collision process illustrated by two wagons: For an elastic collision it is characteristic that the sum of the kinetic energies of the involved bodies is constant.
After a perfectly inelastic collision, however, both bodies have the same velocity; the sum of their kinetic energies is reduced, compared with the initial value, because a part of it has changed into internal energy (warming up).
The total momentum of the involved bodies is conserved, regardless whether the collision is elastic or inelastic.

The Pomeron is of especial importance to particle physicists studying diffraction scattering processes and deep inelastic scattering.
The role of the Pomeron in small-x deep inelastic scattering and in diffractive scattering is also examined in detail.
The two-pomeron hypothesis is applied to a variety of interactions and is compared and contrasted with perturbative quantum chromodynamics, as well as with the dipole approach.

 Economics Basics
On the other hand, an inelastic good or service is one in which changes in price witness only modest changes in the quantity demanded or supplied, if any at all.
Meanwhile, inelastic demand is represented with a much more upright curve as quantity changes little with a large movement in price.
However, if that smoker finds that he or she cannot afford to spend the extra $2 per day and begins to kick the habit over a period of time, the price elasticity of cigarettes for that consumer becomes elastic in the long run.

Inelastic Collisions   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
Most collisions between objects involve the loss of some kinetic energy and are said to be inelastic.
If you know the velocity of one object after the collision, you can determine the other (see inelastic head-on collisions).
The extreme inelastic collision is one in which the colliding objects stick together after the collision, and this case may be analyzed in general terms.

If total kinetic energy is not conserved, then the collision is referred to as an inelastic collision.
A large portion of the kinetic energy is converted to other forms of energy such as sound energy and thermal energy.
A collision in which total system kinetic energy is not conserved is known as an inelastic collision.

Elastic and Inelastic Collisions   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
An elastic collision can be defined as a collision where both the momentum and the total kinetic energy before the collision are the same as the momentum and total kinetic energy after the collision.
The difference between an inelastic collision and a perfectly inelastic collision is that in the perfectly inelastic collision, the two objects stick together after the collision.
An example of a Perfectly Inelastic Collision would be a ballistic pendulum.

Abstract: The perturbative QCD predictions concerning deep inelastic scattering at low x are summarized.
The theoretical framework based on the leading log 1=x resummation and k t factorization theorem is described.
The role of studying final states in deep inelastic scattering for revealing the details of the underlying dynamics at low x is emphasised and some dedicated measurements, like deep inelastic scattering accompanied by an energetic jet, the measurement of the transverse energy flow and deep...

 Inelastic
An economic term used to describe the situation in which the supply and demand for a good are unaffected when the price of that good or service changes.
When a price change has no effect on the supply and demand of a good or service, it is considered perfectly inelastic.
An example of perfectly inelastic demand would be a life saving drug that people will pay any price to obtain.

 The Asianist: "Inelastic Political System"
But here is what the Left calls China's government -- an "inelastic political system":
China, to be sure, still has very many problems of its own, including an inelastic political system, a daunting rich-poor gap, the ever-volatile Taiwan issue, demoralizing corruption problems and those extremely unfortunate and counterproductive tensions with Japan.
Only a Leftist would apologetically call a brutal dictatorship that executes political prisoners as having a merely "inelastic political system."
