Infancy Gospel of Thomas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Infancy Gospel of Thomas is, like many such texts, an pseudepigraphical work, for it claims within itself to have been written by "Thomas the Israelite" (in a Latin version).
Later references by Hippolytus and Origen to a Gospel of Thomas are more likely to be referring to this Infancy Gospel than to the wholly different Gospel of Thomas with which it is sometimes confused.
The few surviving Greek manuscripts are all late, while the earliest authorities are a much abbreviated 6th century Syriac version, and a Latin palimpsest at Vienna of the 5th or 6th century, which has never been deciphered in full.

 Lecture 14: Luke's Infancy Narrative
Luke’s infancy narrative stresses Jesus’ role by placing parallel the annunciations to Elizabeth and Mary, each of whom has an obstacle that must be overcome for the prophecy to be fulfilled.
The Lukan infancy narrative begins with an angel’s promise to an older, childless couple that they will have a son, whom they are to name John and who will prepare the way for the Messiah.
If, on the other hand, we assume that Luke penned his infancy narrative as the beginning of his gospel, then this is a very awkward position, given that the genealogy interrupts what would otherwise be a natural sequence from Jesus’ baptism into the temptation account.

 Infancy Gospel Of Thomas
150 C.E. The Infancy Gospel of Thomas was probably the first of many attempts by the early Christians to document the first twelve years of Jesus's life, bridging the gap left in the second chapter of Luke.
The original language of the text is unknown—Greek or Syriac are probable—but the story was popular enough to survive in numerous translations, redactions, and parallel stories, including several Egyptian infancy gospels, as late as the Protestant Reformation.
Claims of apostolic authorship were most likely a secondary development within the Syriac church, where most of the traditions surrounding Thomas originated.
