 TNMC Movie Reviews: Infernal Affairs
What sets Infernal Affairs apart from the rest of the genre is that the story was not told with stylish shootouts or elaborate fight sequences, instead, it relied on the strength of the plot and featured some of the best acting I have seen.
The line between good and bad is a blurry one in Infernal Affairs, as both protagonists struggle to maintain their respective facade while hiding their true identity.
Infernal Affairs is a fantastic film and an intensely gratifying experience.

After the solid blockbuster Infernal Affairs, and the tense, meaty prequel Infernal Affairs II, all the principals of the first flicks regroup for Infernal Affairs III, a final blowout epic which promises to decide once and for all the fate of sneaky undercover triad guy Lau Kin-Ming (Andy Lau).
Infernal Affairs III is not tightly crafted like the first film, nor meaty and dramatic like the second.
Infernal Affairs III will not be remembered for amazing filmmaking, but those seeking Hong Kong Cinema—and the big stars, iconic drama, and compelling twists it promises—should be okay.

 Infernal Affairs III
Infernal Affairs 2 had proved to be little more than a lazy attempt to 'cash in' on the (deserved) success of the first film by inexplicably substituting the original's too-cool style for some bland direction and stupid story choices, and there seemed little reason to think IA 3 would be any different.
More inventive than IA 2 in every respect, IA 3 's narrative constantly shifts between the past and present to explore both the events leading up to Yan's shooting in the first film and the consequences of Ming's choices at that time.
Infernal Affairs 3 isn't bad as such, just average; a film that tries too hard to justify its existence and ends up a little confused.

"Infernal Affairs" is the first released movie in a series and is known as "Wu jian dao" in Hong Kong (known as "Infernal Affairs" and "I Want to be You" in Hong Kong English).
If "Infernal Affairs" has a forbearer, it is Akira Kurosawa's philosophical thriller "High and Low." This is how we are introduced to the topsy-turvy world of 'Infernal Affairs', in which two directors (Andrew Lau and Alan Mak) collaborate to tell the twinned stories of two men who lead the split lives of double agents.
The stakes are high, the tension is mounting, and while Yan is desperate to regain his true identity and a normal life as a uniformed policeman, Ming is equally desperate to discard his criminal identity, and will do anything to cling to the normal life which he now enjoys.
Yet for all its pace and complexity, 'Infernal Affairs' presents fully rounded characters facing credible dilemmas, so that it will not only keep you on the edge of your seat, but also engage your emotions - not least because of the intense performances given by the two leads, and by Anthony Wong.
