In his review of the first “Infernal Affairs”, Brian vouchsafed that Hong Kong cinema’s 2002 box office champion was “a film for grownups”; and not least because its “four main stars are all veteran actors that allow you to sit back and watch how real actors go about their work”.
To be sure, Edison Chen and Shawn Yu do reprise their “Infernal Affairs” roles as, respectively, the younger, more hotheaded versions of the Triad mole among the police named Lau Kin Ming and the undercover cop asked to masquerade as a Triad who’s known as Yan.
To some extent, the inclusion of Carina Lau’s Mary character in the INFERNAL AFFAIRS II “gang” may be seen as a way of trying to ensure that this would not be the case with regards to the prequel.

 Infernal Affairs II - DVD Review
Infernal Affairs II was met with good box-office, fairly positive reviews plus thankfully somewhat of an assurance that the teen idols taking Andy Lau and Tony Leung's roles weren't given the task of carrying the picture.
Admittedly, Infernal Affairs wasn't as guilty of the latter but it's wonderful to see Lau and company taking down the green colour scheme to a minimal level (I would rather see it gone but you can't have everything).
The flaws of Infernal Affairs II are flaws and therefore it doesn't beat the impact of part 1.

As you might expect, Infernal Affairs II concentrates on the relationships between the cops and gangsters, as the the undercovers struggle to toe the line between their respective societies.
Infernal Affairs was one of the best movies of last year, and thankfully the followup follows in its' footsteps.
But seeing as how Infernal Affairs II manages to be one of the few sequels/prequels that doesn't suck, I'm willing to accept the absence of any "naughty bits".

Rather it’s best simply to mention that the primary concerns now centre around double dealings, backstabbings and politics; gone are the taut set pieces of the first Infernal Affairs, in their stead we find similarly pitched conversations in darkened rooms and back alleys.
Whilst Infernal Affairs II may have an intentionally muted appearance, it seems unlikely that Lau and Mak intended the image to be quite as soft as it appears here.

Eternally Infernal: Infernal Affairs II Andrew Lau and Alan Mak's thunderous Infernal Affairs was one of the unquestioned Hong Kong cinematic highlights of recent years, yet its equally accomplished prequel only mustered a fraction of the original's success at the UK box office.
Worth noting too that Infernal Affairs neophytes, such as my co-watcher, can come first to the second movie, and follow more conventionally with the earlier film as a sequel.
