		Infinite Jest is the uncanny nightmare of the dream offered us in today's headlines: groceries, videos, information, the world available "on demand." It paints a nation of millions "plugged in" like the lab rat which freely chooses stimulation of its brain's pleasure center to food and water, and starves smiling.
		In a Swiftian gesture, Infinite Jest sacrifices the ordinal years themselves for sacred advertising space: from the inaugural Year of the Whopper through the Year of the Trial-Size Dove Bar to the apocalyptic Year of Glad.
		Of Infinite Jest's pleasures the most intoxicating is the march and hum of words and sentences which form the environment, ambient noise, and very foundation of any novel.

	The Limits of the Infinite:

		Reading Infinite Jest is a lot like running a marathon.
		The first time you try it, it seems to take forever, your whole body hurts, and when you finish, all you've accomplished is that you've finished.

		Basically, each page of Infinite Jest carries about 1.5 times as many words as a normal book, making the page count of 1,088 more like 1,500.
		Infinite Jest continues to tell its story by description (which I described in my earlier post).
		At best, the only way you could make the case for including this is by saying that this helps describe the future America that Wallace's novel takes place in, but this is a very weak justification.

		I'm not trying to pull out any elitist tactics by decrying the band as "poseurs," but suspicion arises when a band references greatness in a seeming attempt to feign credibility, all the while aligning itself with the current trend of pseudo-post-punk glam-wannabe rockers.
		But, Infinite Jest is a little better than I expected, or even wanted it to be.
		True, it's rough giving credit to a band who dresses snappy but can't follow up their attire with a musical equivalent, but We Are the Fury manage to be slightly above the rest of the crop of non-British/NYC retro acts, and perhaps being from Ohio, the band never fell into a mire of pretense.

		I have read both Infinite Jest and Gravity’s Rainbow (though “read” is a bit of a stretch for what happened with Gravity’s Rainbow, I’d say it was more like a desperate run to the finish).
		However, when I read Infinite Jest, I feel like I’m not getting something due to my own idiocy.
		Now, I guess this isn’t true, Infinite Jest won’t ever resolve itself, no matter how smart you are.
