Inflammation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The cellular component involves the movement of white blood cells from blood vessels into the inflamed tissue.
Neutrophils are characteristic of inflammation in the early stages - they are the first cells to appear in an infected area, and any section of recently inflamed (within a couple of days or so) tissue viewed under a microscope will appear packed with them.
They are easily identified by their multilobed nuclei and granular cytoplasm and perform many important functions, including phagocytosis and the release of extracellular chemical messengers.

 Targeting the inflamed synovium
Liposomes have been successfully used in the imaging of inflamed joints, as well as in dispensing drugs to RA patients.
In a novel experiment with a rat model, corticosteroids were encapsulated in RGD peptide liposomes targeted to bind to inflamed cells in the walls of blood vessels.
Further potential targets within the inflamed joint, including synovial macrophages, cells that work to remove harmful bacteria, and E-selectin, an adhesion molecule in the blood vessel walls that recruits immune-boosting lymphocytes.

The extracellular ATP released in inflamed tissues has pronociceptive activity [30,31]: it possibly acts by binding and activating the P2X receptors for ATP present on pain-sensing neurons.
In inflamed paws the expression of P2X7 receptors was less evident in oATP-treated than in untreated rats, independently on the route of oATP administration.

We studied the sensory afferent properties of normal, immobilised and inflamed rat knees by recording the activity of the medial articular nerve (MAN).
When the knee was inflamed by kaolin-carrageenan or immobilised for six weeks, MAN activity significantly increased during rest and continuous passive motion (CPM).
Analysis of the conduction velocity showed that 94% and 66% of spike units on the recorded discharge of the immobilised and inflamed knees, respectively, belonged to fine nerve fibres.

To be inflamed in love for Christ, Mother Adela Galindo
Those disciples who walked under the weight of grief and distress, who were tired and discouraged, felt the need of the presence of Him whose words and company inflamed their hearts, as we are told in the passage of Luke 24, verse 29.
Amidst the shadows and the darkness, the disciples experienced a particular ardor in the presence of the Lord, that is to say, a fire that inflamed their hearts and dissipated their inner darkness, illuminating them, as St. Luke tells us, to the point where “their eyes were opened”.
In this Year of the Eucharist, we are invited to rediscover the great mystery of love in the real and substantial presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
