General History of the Highlands: Chapter 2
Tacitus tells us that in his time the inhabitants of Britain differed in the habit and make of their bodies, and from the ruddy locks and large limbs of the Caledonians he inferred that they were of German origin.
In the beginning of the third century there were at least two divisions of the inhabitants of Caledonia,—the Caledonians and Maeats,—the former inhabiting the country to the north of the Grampians, and the latter, in all probability, that to the south and southeast of these mountains.
The Cinel Angus inhabited the islands of Islay and Jura, and the Cinel Lorn, the district of Lorn.

Amnesty International is seriously concerned for the safety of Afro-descendant inhabitants in the Cacarica River Basin, Riosucio Municipality, department of Choco after receiving information that army-backed paramilitaries have threatened to enter their communities.
The inhabitants have repeatedly asserted their right not to be drawn into the conflict by calling on combatants in the area whether guerrilla forces, the armed forces or their paramilitary allies not to enter the humanitarian zones.
Between 2000 and 2001 the Afro-descendant inhabitants of the communities in the Cacarica River Basin area resettled on their land after they were forced to flee their homes in the wake of joint paramilitary-military operations in the region in early 1997.

III. THE INHABITANTS OF THE EARTH.
Even while the doctrine of the sphericity of the earth was undecided, another question had been suggested which theologians finally came to consider of far greater importance.
The doctrine of the sphericity of the earth naturally led to thought regarding its inhabitants, and another ancient germ was warmed into life--the idea of antipodes: of human beings on the earth's opposite sides.
Basil and St. Ambrose were tolerant enough to allow that a man might be saved who thought the earth inhabited on its opposite sides; but the great majority of the fathers doubted the possibility of salvation to such misbelievers.

It is this situation which provides for the inhabitants of this special environment to be continuously surrounded by potential contacts.

This northern cultural backwater forms environmentally a westward extension of the vast Siberian expanse of tundra and taiga; since early pre-Slavic days it has been the home of various tribes of Finns, some of whom once led, on European soil, a life much like that of the Siberian Ostiaks and Voguls of recent centuries.
In the Neolithic time-expanse, in the general European sense, the inhabitants of these forests lived by hunting and stream-fishing, in a manner reminiscent of their Maglemose predecessors.
A few cultural innovations filtered northward from the agricultural lands, and among these was pottery, decorated by comb-impressions and other characteristic marks which render it easy to identify.
