Adressing reporters who visited Inhassoro to cover the ceremony to launch two SASOL funded social projects, namely the building of a primary school and a health centre, Abdula said that tests at the processing centre have already started, but the crucial stage will be in December.
The plan is to have the centre operating in full by the first quarter of next year, pumping gas to the SASOL petrochemical plant in Secunda, in South Africa, through a pipeline, which building has been already completed.

Kok Nam is the director of the weekly paper, Savana, which is fighting a libel case brought by a businessman in the southern province of Inhambane, arising from an article published in 1997.
Antonio Gumende, the chairman of Mediacoop, the cooperative that owns Savana, told the Mozambique News Agency (AIM) that the case came to court in the Inhambane district of Inhassoro two months ago, but Savana's lawyer, Domingos Arouca, was unable to attend.
Savana was ordered to pay libel damages of 500 million meticais (21,700 US dollars), and the court fined Kok Nam, as director of the paper, 100,000 meticais (4.3 dollars) for failing to attend.

 FEATURE - Mozambique campaigns to keep dugong off the menu
The dugong, which is about the size of a cow and said to be just as tasty when properly cooked, is in trouble in Mozambique, where the press has been campaigning strongly on its behalf in recent weeks.
Angela McIntyre, a Canadian U.N. volunteer working with the group, said the dugong count in the Inhassoro area two years ago was estimated at between 90 and 120.
Inhassoro is not the only part of the Mozambican coastline with dugongs, but Mozambican biologist Almeida Guissamulo said in a recent article that there are only between 500 and 1,000 of the creatures left along the entire coast.

Inhassoro has always been one of my favourite spots as it is a small, peaceful and uncommercialized village where everything is right next to the beach.
If you want nightlife, shops and non-stop partying Inhassoro is not for you, but the campsite will get quite raucous at times.
My host chose Inhassoro because he thought we might get away from the madding crowd by travelling to a more remote part of Moz.

Inhambane provincial director of transport, Manuela Rebelo, was quoted as saying the flight plan filed by the pilot had shown the chopper was to fly from Vilankulo International Airport to the island of Bazaruto.
"There is no authorisation for any type of aircraft to land in Inhassoro town or district, except in the event of an emergency, and duly authorised by the civil aviation authorities," he stressed.
Friday's incident was the second in the space of a week, according to Rebelo, who said a helicopter landed twice on an Inhassoro beach Monday, causing panic among fishermen and tourists alike.

Inhassoro is just a (very long) day's drive from Harare (most Zimbabweans either stay over at Mutare before entering Moz or at Casa Msika which is just after Manica inside the country), and the campers at Seta (the owner's nickname, don't ask me why) all drove Zimbabwe-registered vehicles.
Judging by the size of their boats and gleam of their cars, there are at least some citizens who are not suffering to badly at the bungling hands of Mugabe.

Johannesburg - Mozambican civil aviation authorities seized a South African helicopter that allegedly landed illegally on a beach in Inhassoro in the southern province of Inhambane, the Mozambican news agency AIM reported on Monday.
The Inhambane provincial director of transport, Manuela Rebelo, said the flight plan filed by the helicopter pilot should have taken it from Vilankulo International Airport to the island of Bazaruto and no aircraft had authorisation to land in Inhassoro except in an emergency.
Mozambican authorities have criticised the regular landing of light aircraft on the Inhassoro beaches, saying Friday's was the second in a week.

Mediacoop subsequently hired a lawyer in Inhambane, whose investigation revealed that Nam's arrest for the 100,000 meticais fine was in fact a ruse to drag him to Inhassoro for the second trial of a libel case moved against "Savana" by a local businessman, Salema Mufundisse.
According to Gumende, about two weeks ago, the Inhassoro judge, in the presence of both Arouca and "Savana" editor Salomao Moyana, agreed on 14 December as the new date for the trial.

Initial reports from the INGC indicate that 6 people were killed as a result of the cyclone (1 in Vilanculo, 2 in Inhassoro, 3 in Govuro and 2 in Massinga) and 79 wounded (50 in Vilanculo, 22 in Inhassoro, 5 in Govuro and 2 in Massinga).
Significant numbers of houses have been damaged but as people are choosing to stay close to their homes, only a relatively small number of people are currently in the accommodation centres in the area.
The priority needs in Inhassoro are family tents, food, tents to be used as temporary learning facilities, roofing materials and water and sanitation for health centres.

I have found community leaders with integrity, ability and respect in Tofo, Inhassoro and Beira, and will be hooking up with a few more up north.
In each of these communities, there exists groups of concerned local business leaders who have come together to try and ensure that development is managed properly in conjunction with the needs of the environment.
The issue might be dune regeneration and low-impact diving (Tofo), Turtles and sustainable fishing (Inhassoro), beach clean-ups etc. These people are good people, and know what needs to be done.

In total, an estimated 133,670 people were affected by the cyclone in the four affected districts of Inhambane province: 73,000 (14,600 families) in Vilanculo, 43,170 (16,471 families) in Inhassoro, 7,500 (1,498 families) in Govuro and 10,000 (2,000 families) in Massinga.
In addition to the immediate water and sanitation interventions, in Vilanculos, Inhassoro and Govuro districts UNICEF has so far supported over 30,000 people with roofing material (plastic sheeting), 242 vulnerable families with basic materials (family kits) and one orphanage.
UNICEF has been liaising with partners to agree upon the division of labour to ensure that support is provided to all of the affected populations.

Bazaruto archipelago is a very good place to visit for snorkeling, scuba diving and secluded islands and beaches.
While we stayed at Vilanculo and Inhassoro and used local operations to scuba dive the islands, it would have been preferable (if much more expensive and isolating) to stay at the lodges on the island.
Unfortunately, snorkeling, scuba diving and swimming are not attractive at Vilanculo or Inhassoro.

Taking public transport from Inhambane to Inhassoro, we already had gotten an idea of how slow transport in this country could be.
Besides the occasional chicken crossing the road (why?), we came across a soccer pitch with two large palm trees on it, saw a furniture manufacturer who used plastic bags as couch filling and hordes of kids jumping around enthusiastically while pumping water out of the ground.
In Inhassoro, we were picked up by Semia and John, who runs a lodge on the Inhassoro beach.

A hotel and campsite were previously available at Inhassoro, butthese are shortly to be closed as the site has been taken over by the construction company involved in the gas pipeline.
Vilanculos and Inhassoro are reached via the main tar road from Maputo.
The town of Vilanculos is notoriously full of thieves, butsecurity is good at the resorts out of town, as well as at the campsite at Inhassoro.

Strangely, Inhassoro seems to hold an enclave of Zimbos coming from Marondera.
Over the last 10 years or so, first slowly, but faster and faster, white Zimbabweans have been leaving the country to set up shop elsewhere.
