The winds had picked up during the four hours I was on Inishturk, and now the sea was covered in whitecaps and steep waves breaking on top of a larger swell.
The fisherman on Inishturk had said there was only one landing on the island, around the back side, that wouId be sheltered in the southwesterly winds.

With the North Westerly blowing top of a five we decided on a short and relatively sheltered hop to Inishturk today, so were on a close reach once we got round the bottom of Inishbofin and had a fantastic sail.
Inishturk was looking a bit industrial with a big crane and jack-up barge moored inshore putting in piling to extend the jetty.
We had to wade through mud and drag the dinghy to the water before returning to the boat slightly the worse for wear for a late supper.

After mingling with the crowd for a short while the President was transported back down the steep hill from whence she came and the attending crowd watched the helicopter rise up over the pier and fly away before all turned gratefully to the community centre for the food and drinks.

The future of Inishturk Island was further secured with the launch of a new £150,000 ferry, the Caher Star, on Sunday.
Inishturk had a unique way of life that many people wanted to experience and the new ferry service would help forge links between the island community and the mainland for many years to come.
Jack Heanue said he was delighted to be in a position to provide the first licences ferry in the Caher Star to serve the community.

It was Henry David Thoreau who maintained that a walk was nothing if not the adventure of a free man. He would certainly have approved of this tour, called the Connemara Safari, which operates weekly from May to the end of September.

Nearly fifty years after the last regatta was held, Inishturk came alive at the weekend when the custom was revived.
A large crowd from neighbouring Clare Island, Achill Island and Inishbofin and the mainland arrived on Inishturk for the festivities.
The regatta was just part of a busy weekend of activities on Inishturk over the weekend.

 First UK outing for Dunstan Inishturk this weekend
This weekend sees Bryce Newman riding Dunstan Inishturk in his first competition since arriving in the UK earlier this year.
Running in the Open Intermediate class of Milton Keynes One Day Event, the combination are scheduled to do their dressage test early on Sunday morning (0852), followed by the show jumping and cross-country in quick succession.
The pair will need to put in a good showing at these events to reassure the selectors of the New Zealand team going to the World Equestrian Games in Spain in September that Dunstan Inishturk is fit enough to complete a four-star competition and thus be included in the team.
