Topic: Inishvickillane

Sunday Mirror: Haughey call in top guns for deer cull on his island
The issue of Inishvickillane was raised at the Deer Society's annual general meeting last week and many members feared the herd on the island was at risk.
A stag and two hinds were sent there in the 1970s, extra stags had been sent from time to time since to strengthen the bloodlines, and the number is thought to have reached 100, the meeting was told.
The deer society, which saved the species from extinction, is also concerned that native herds are being threatened by over- grazing of farm animals on park meadow lands, unmonitored movement of deer around the country and pressure by a growing hunting lobby fighting to be allowed to hunt red deer.

The letter of the 9th April 1986, in addition, requested information to facilitate the Revenue Commissioners in their consideration of the question as to whether Inishvickillane Island ought to be included in the Residential Property Tax returns.
There appears to be no progress in relation to the matter and it next seems to have been taken up in or around June of 1990 and this appears from a memorandum, an internal memorandum of that date from Mr.
Haughey to either Residential Property Tax or some other liability to Income Tax in respect of Inishvickillane, it would appear that there may have been an inspection of Abbeville by the Valuation Office, but if there was, it did not result in any change of the valuation submitted by Mr.

Before the arrival of the new pier, marina and car parking facilities, fishermen in the town could only berth in high tide and many view improvements as more than enough reason to come out and support the former FF leader every year at regatta time.
It remains to be seen whether Conor Haughey will travel to the event in his father’s traditional way by sailing into the harbour on board the family yacht ‘Celtic Mist’ directly from the family’s holiday retreat in Inishvickillane.
But the younger Haughey is bound to get a warm welcome from the crowd who flock annually to the town for one the Ireland’s oldest and most famous regattas.
