The inland sea is an estuary, a semi-enclosed body of water where sea water from the open Pacific Ocean is diluted by fresh water from numerous rivers, large and small.
The inland sea is renowned for its abundant flocks of birds.
Diversion of the fresh water that feeds the inland sea is essentially a form of degradation or loss of riverine habitat, and it alters water motions and chemistry in the estuary as well.

Thermally-forces Circulation I: Sea Breezes, Print Version   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-11)
Sea breezes typically form and begin their march inland during the mid- to late-morning hours, when daytime land temperatures exceed adjacent water temperatures by an average of about 6-10°F (or 3-6°C).
Their strength is proportional to the magnitude of the land and sea temperature difference and dependent on the direction and the strength of the prevailing synoptic flow.
While the basic sea breeze circulation described in the previous section is fairly typical, the nature of the sea breeze circulation and its regional structure are often the result of various modifying effects.
