Inner Mongolia is contrasted with Outer Mongolia, which was used by the Republic of China and previous governments to refer to what is covered today by the independent nation of Mongolia plus the Russian-administered Tannu Tuva.
Inner Mongolia borders, from east to west, the provinces of Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Hebei, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, and Gansu, while to the north it borders Mongolia and Russia.
Present-day eastern Inner Mongolia, then part of Manchuria, came under the control of the Japanese puppet state Manchukuo in 1931, and was administered thus until the end of the war in 1945.

These included four lice from Inner Mongolia Province in China that were from two hosts infested withbothh ead lice and body lice.
Haplotypes 3 and 6 were common in the two provinces in China, Xinjiang Province and Inner Mongolia Province, respectively, but were not found in any other locations, so they are probably not ancestral haplotypes.

Research on the resistance to the fungicide metalaxyl at Hebei Agricultural University revealed that about 50% of strains collected in Hebei and Inner Mongolia were resistant to metalaxyl.

Conservation agriculture systems typically result in increased crop water availability and agroecosystem productivity, reduced soil erosion, increased soil organic matter and nutrient availability, reduced labor and fuel use and increased biological control of pests.
The project goal is to improve the incomes and livelihoods of smallholder farm families in the rainfed cropping areas of Henan, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia and Shandong while simultaneously improving soil quality and reducing land degradation and soil erosion that threaten system sustainability.
Specific objectives include fostering farm family adoption of conservation agriculture practices through participatory research, farmer experimentation and farmer-to-farmer interaction and extension; assessing the (biophysical, social and economic) consequences of conservation agriculture adoption; encouraging a policy environment that does not discriminate against conservation agriculture; and strengthening the capacity of local partners.

 Alfalfa Meets Its Asian Relatives / January 3, 2001 / News from the USDA Agricultural Research Service
Hardy new alfalfa cultivars that tolerate drought, frequent grazing, poor soils and other crop stresses may come from four germplasm lines that Agricultural Research Service scientists developed from the legume's wild Asian relatives.
During the past decade, Campbell, Larry Teuber of the University of California at Davis, and the late Danny Mowrey of ARS traveled to Inner Mongolia to bring back 100 plant specimens, called "accessions," for preservation in the U.S. National Plant Germplasm System maintained by ARS, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's principal scientific research agency.
This followed nine years of plant breeding and evaluation to improve the wild alfalfa for desirable traits including dense, upright growth, early flowering, seedling vigor and leaf hopper resistance.
