Innis’ itinerary reveals that his “holiday” was heavily laced with work-related activities, including a visit with W. Turgeon, former Chairman of the Royal Commission on Transportation, attendance at the fifth centenary celebrations at Glasgow University (representing the University of Toronto) as well as his address at le Collège de France.
Innis’ dissatisfaction with the emergent study of communications in the United States was echoed by McLuhan in a letter to Innis in the early winter of 1951.
Innis’ preoccupation with the decline of time-binding forms of communication in the face of space-binding technologies was evident in some of his observations during his Paris visit.

Keely was also active on several Innis College and U of T committees, and received the Gordon Cressy Leadership Award and a Silver and Bronze T. Keely went on to law school at Osgoode Hall, graduating in 2002 and articling at a firm in downtown Toronto.
She serves on Innis College Council and is a board member of the Finnish Studies Alumni Association at U of T. She regularly attends SHAKER, an event for U of T's young professional alumni.
Looking back at his time spent at Innis College, Russ (as he was generally called then) recalls doing a lot of reading on the subway and bus, hanging out at the various libraries, and playing a bit of pinball in the basement of Innis.

As if Innis was uttering thoughts in Plato’s academy, and hoping for an interruption, so he could defend, refine, or expand the thought, rather than sail along to the end of his discourse in the midst of respectful silence and attention from the unseen scholarly audience.
I think Innis in his later works was moving to a recovery of thinking in that sense, with his admiration for Greece and its Oral Tradition; in the face of the practicality, knowledge mongering, and problem solving that the “positive” sciences, both natural and social, have been prone to since their rise.
Now it seems to me Innis fought his own battles with despair, based on his sense of history, and the determinations of technology, especially what he saw as the biases of communications; though at least he never had to copy with a sense of loss after discovering history was not on his side.

Paterson, who has been at the helm of the college since July 1, plans to spend the rest of her five-year term advocating for students, increasing Innis’ connections to the city and enhancing programs in urban studies, cinema studies and writing, rhetoric and critical analysis.
Innis’ newest principal, who is also the first woman to hold the college’s top job, is a professor of French.
“Innis has a very strong connection to the community and to the city,” she said.

So when Vivek Krishnamurthy was left speechless by a phone call last month, it had to be very big news indeed.
The fourth-year Innis College student had just been informed that he was one of 11 Canadian students to win a 2002 Rhodes scholarship to the University of Oxford.
He sits on the Hart House board of stewards and is editor-in-chief of the Attaché, the Trinity College international affairs journal.

This “experiment” in the teaching of writing to undergraduates was not only the first Innis College academic offering but also the first writing laboratory established at a Canadian university.
In 1967 King was appointed Innis College’s second registrar and in 1981 was appointed the college’s first vice-principal.
As Innis celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2004, the college will recognize King’s enormous contribution through the establishment of the David King Memorial Scholarship to be awarded to an outstanding student enrolled in the writing, rhetoric and critical analysis program.

When four Environmental Studies students at Innis College look out the windows, they see a lot more than the buildings, students, faculty and staff that make up the University of Toronto campus.
"The Innis College building is going to be completely renovated over the next few years, including several major architectural changes," she explained.
The students found that even the windows in the newer part of the college building were inefficient when it came to energy loss.
