Innuendo is a 1991 album by English rock band Queen.

The booklets and single covers from the album are by Grandville, or are inspired by his illustrations.

Notes: (****) Innuendo was Queen's last album while Freddie Mercury was still alive and was recorded in 1990-1 while he was dying from AIDS.
'Innuendo' was released as a single on 14 Jan 1991, a month before the album, and spent one week at #1 on the UK single chart.
While the album is credited to the band as a whole, Mercury was the main writer for (2), (7) and (9), May for (3), (4), (10), (11), (12), Taylor for (1), (6), (8) and Deacon for (5).

 Innuendo album review
I know it seems blasphemous, particularly considering the reputation ‘Innuendo’ holds within the Queen realm, and I appreciate the fact that considering the state of Freddie’s health it was a miracle this album was ever recorded.
The overall ambiance of the album seems to me to be a bit sterile and uninspiring, and some of that trademark Queen flair and individuality has unfortunately disappeared.
Overall, not a bad album but just not one of their best, but considering the circumstances under which it was recorded it is indeed a marvellous achievement.

If Innuendo was the only possible opener for this album, this song is the only possible finale - Bijou also being the perfect lead-in to it.
If it had been the follow-up to Innuendo, it would have made the top ten effortlessly, in fact it would quite probably have followed it all the way to the top spot.
Innuendo and These Are The Days Of Our Lives are also worthy of a mention, the former for its power, the latter for its depth and simplicity.

However, the album was written right after he broke up with his Fiance, so there's plenty of Industrial aggression to be found on this album.
Innuendo is the second album of this Texas project, which defines itself as a mix of gothic and techno.
There are instrumental tracks too (about one third of the album)- the rhythm is brought to the forefront and the consequences of it....I must admit that sometimes the diversity of music played on my nerves; the sound close to pure techno provokes out-of-body associations and puts you out.

The music and sounds you'll find on this album are like a compilation of the very best achieved in the band's career.
Innuendo, the song that opens the album, is a masterpiece that showcases different styles in the same way that Bohemian Rhapsody does.
With Headlong the album turns a little bit heavier and it's one of those Brian's numbers, impossible to be absent in a Queen album.

The album starts with the bolero-style Innuendo, which was a risk, as it was very different - but it worked.

ALBUM REVIEW: Adam Sandler: Stan and Judy’s Kid -- Innuendo Galore   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-04)
His most recent album is a return to the style that made his first two a hit: a balance of long and short skits with several songs.
One of the bright spots among the songs on Stan and Judy’s Kid is the highly explicit and offensive “She Comes Home to Me,” in which Sandler proclaims his love for his prostitute wife (she may work the streets but she comes home to him).
The last long skit on the album, “The Psychotic Legend of Uncle Donnie,” is self-explanatory as it uses a bit of dark humor to tell the story of Uncle Donnie who got a little drunk one day on the lake.

Innuendo is so lightweight you'll forget it as soon as it's over – which, with this band, should go without saying anyway – but there's nothing cynical about it.

INNUENDO would turn out to be Queen's swan song, as it was the last album released during vocalist Freddie Mercury's lifetime--he passed away several months after the album's release.
Not all of INNUENDO deals with serious topics, however--"I'm Going Slightly Mad" and "Delilah" both contain humorous lyrics and were designed to be taken lightheartedly.
The epic title track, which opens the album, is an instant Queen classic on first listen, built similarly in structure to past Queen classics "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Somebody to Love".

Although his health weakened by the '90s, Mercury insisted that the band work on music until the very end; their final album turned out to be 1991's Innuendo.
Although it didn't receive the same critical praise as its predecessor, 1989's The Miracle, it was another strong album and global hit (again going gold in the U.S.).
Innuendo was a fitting way to end one of rock's most successful careers.

It's a well known fact that while working on this album Freddie Mercury was basically dead, barely able to stand most times and felt exhaustion and general illness during the recording of this album.
Even though Freddie Mercury knew he in-fact was dying when this album was being recorded, I have to say that the he and his band mates collected enough joy in the spirit of their love for being together, recording together, and playing together to out weigh the depressing situation that they must have been in.
It is a dark album, but ultimately the message of the album is that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

The last true Queen album, Innuendo has a great mix of the rock tracks that Queen do best, and some slightly tongue-in-cheek songs ("I'm going slightly mad" being the perfect example), in true flamboyant Freddie Mercury style.
The stand-out track on this album is the wonderful "These are the days of our lives", a particularly touching song about appreciating the good days, and "when you can lay back and enjoy it through your kids".
This album makes a fitting tribute to Freddie Mercury as he should be remembered, the extrovert showman playing to his audience.

 Decade Overview 1990s
Below is a brief appraisal of the band's album releases during the 1990's, which is followed by a UK singles discography for the decade.
The 'Innuendo' album released in 1991 had a prevailing sombre ambience, and each song possessed a meditative, melancholic air, particularly the final track 'The Show Must Go On', and its prophetic significance was to be cruelly realised before the year was out.
As the name suggests, the album is a collection of their more up tempo numbers, and is an indispensable introduction to some of Queen's album material for those people only familiar with the band's single releases.

It's a very dark and moody piece and although there are moments of humor and lightheartedness, the entire album sort of has that moody quality about it.
There are a few tunes here which are slightly lesser quality, but on an album of such greatness, even these songs are better than some of the material from their 80's era material.
This may be the greatest Queen album ever written...but that is a matter of opinion.

The album is definitely a little better received amongst fans of the group than the band's eighties material generally was, which was much needed after the unfair bashing that the eighties stuff tended to receive.
It was obvious the band had to come to terms with the inevitable death of their frontman in the near future, as you can tell from both the tone of the song and the lyrics alike.
This would eventually turn out to be the second last studio album of Queen but it is clear from the choice of material and subject matter of the tracks that they thought that this would be their swansong.
